De Sa: We needed eight sub

Orlando Pirates coach Roger De Sa was a disappointed man following their disastrous 4-1 loss to minnows Maluti FET College in the Nedbank Cup on Saturday.

The Sea Robbers came into the game as heavy favourites to annihilate the SAFA Second Division side, but instead it was them who had to leave with their tails between their legs.

De Sa feels that his side does not have the needed depth in all positions, but also believes that it was a day where nothing went right for the team.

“It was a disaster of errors. It was one after the next. It stated in the first minute and from then on it set the pace. We never got anything right and unfortunately we could only make three substitutions – we needed to make about eight. We were poor all around,” said the Bucs tactician.

“I thought at 2-0 we still had a chance. If we changed things around and we started playing the way we were supposed to play… but we never did. We don’t have enough depth in certain positions and it showed in certain areas.

“Well done to them (Maluti). They fought hard, they ran hard – their first three chances produced three goals.”

When asked what went wrong, he added, “It’s a combination of things where they go wrong for you. We could have played until midnight and it wouldn’t have come right for us. It was one of those days, we just have to lift our heads and keep going.

“It’s painful, but it’s what cup football is all about. We’ve got a lot of work to do.”
