Pretoria – A Chinese businessman has been arrested in Pretoria for allegedly attempting to bribe the Reserve Bank, the Hawks said on Saturday.
The 41-year-old was arrested on Friday afternoon, said Hawks spokesman Captain Paul Ramaloko.
It is alleged that he tried to bribe the Reserve Bank with R100 000 for them to release his R2 5 milllion, which had been seized by authorities last year because of an investigation against him.
The man is due to appear in the Pretoria Commercial Crime Court on Monday. – Sapa
