The Kimberley SAPS welcomes the rape sentencing which was passed on today in the Kimberley Regional Court North Cape police said.

Tebogo Goasenkwe(28) was sentenced to an effective twenty years imprisonment after he raped a 47 year old female in the female toilet at the Castle City Tavern in Beaconsfield, Kimberley on 12 April 2011 at approximately 21:00pm.

“This came after Detective Constable Pitso Tau of the Kimberley SAPS Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences ensured that he brought a water tight case to the Court of Law” Lieutenant Sergio Kock said.

The occurrence of the mentioned incident is as follows :

“The female victim was enjoying a drink at the tavern when Tebogo Goasenkwe approached her and sat at her table. The female was employed at the tavern but was off-duty at the time the incident occurred”.

” After a while the female left the table and visited the toilet at the tavern. Tebogo followed her to the toilet and forced the door open while the victim was still busy inside. He then turned her around and started beating her face on the toilet sisten while choking her repeatedly” Police said.

” He then kept his hands over her mouth and raped her from behind, anally and then vaginally. The female victim said she was screaming but because of the loud music played inside the tavern nobody could hear her” Lieutenant Kock said.

The victim reported the rape immediately after it occurred and Tebogo Goasenkwe who is originally from Kuruman was arrested the same evening.

The female victim sustained severe injuries to her face, arms and her genitals due to the brutal rape.

“The Kimberley Cluster Commander, Major General Jean Abrahams lauds Detective Constable Pitso Tau for a brilliant job done which ensured that no impunity was granted to the criminal after he committed this heinous crime” Kock said.

“Justice has prevailed and we trust that the sentencing will serve as a deterrent to others who consider similar crimes. The SAPS sees rape as a brutal invasion of a person’s privacy and dignity therefore we hail victory with regards to the sentencing.” police said.

“The SAPS Provincial Men for Change Forum concur with the Court of Law and reiterates that rape in all it’s forms is a humiliating and degrading act which causes serious psychological trauma to it’s victims” police adds.

Bearing in mind that some rape victims never recover or rehabilitate completely after such a gruesome encouter. Men should know that we are there to love, protect and cherish women and children and ensure that their rights are in no way violated.

We celebrate the sentencing and we denounce this type of barbaric behaviour portrayed in a public place and agree that the criminal be removed from society.”

Magistrate JJ Clarke imposed a sentencing of 15 years’ for count one of the charge and 15 years’ for count two and this will be running concurrently, henceforth Tebogo Goasenkwe will be serving an effective twenty years’ imprisonment for this intentional and unlawful crime he committed said police.
