Jouberton- A 20 year old man has beeb stabbed to death after a quarrel North West police said.

The incident started at Tshedimosetso Secondary during school where a 20 year old man was accused by a 18 year-old suspect.

“It is alleged that a 20 year old deceased was part of the group that killed a 33 year-old man from Extension 1. According to information received a 33 year old man was killed on Sunday after been engaged in a heated-argument with four guys” Captain Pelonomi Makau said.

“A 33 year-old man who is a cousin of a 18 year-old suspect was stabbed to death after he came across four guys from Extension 12 accompanying his girlfriend. He allegedly stopped her to get answers as the girl was allegedly not home for the whole weekend” Captain said.

“The argument broke between him and the alleged group. That precipitated to a fight and one of the guys took out a knife and stabbed him” Makau said.

A 18 year-old man was allegedly standing from a distance.He accused a 20 year old of a murder of his cousin. 

Their fight started on Monday almost at the same spot his cousin was allegedly stabbed. He took out a rusty knife and allegedly stabbed him.

A vctim was taken to a local hospital in critical condition where he later died.

A case of murder was registered and investigations continue.

Hawks spokesperson McIntosh Polela has been suspended three weeks after making a controversial reference to prison rape on Twitter, police said today. “He has been suspended. We won’t discuss details. It is a purely internal matter,” said Brigadier Phuti Setati.

He referred all Hawks media inquiries to the SA Police Service media centre. Setati would not comment on a report in the Beeld newspaper that Polela’s suspension was the direct result of his tweet in October about kwaito star Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye, after he was convicted of murder.

“Jub Jub spending 1st night in prison, bail has been denied after being found guilty of murder, attempted murder & racing while high,” Polela tweeted shortly after judgement was handed down by the Protea Magistrates Court.

“I trust that Jub Jub’s supporters gave him a jar of Vaseline to take to prison,” Polela posted. Several users commented on this tweet. One asked: “Really? Rape jokes from the police spokesperson?” and another: “Coming from an officer of the court that is low! Scrapping at the bottom of the barrel for comments now are we?”

Polela later apologised for the remark, also via Twitter: “My tweet about Jub Jub on Tuesday night was in poor taste. I profoundly regret posting it and hereby retract it. Je suis desole I’m sorry.”

Shortly after the initial tweets, fast food franchise Nando’s ran an advert poking fun at him. “Next time you’re thinking about tweeting, do yourself (and your followers) a favour and come to Nando’s instead. Unlike your jokes, our flame-grilled peri-peri chicken is always tasteful.”

On Tuesday, a Twitter user asked Polela why he was not commenting on the latest Hawks’ raid. “I’m writing exams from the 19th. At home studying and trying not to care about what’s happening in the universe,” he replied.

Maarohanye and Themba Tshabalala were found guilty of four counts of murder, two of attempted murder, using drugs, racing on a public road, and driving under the influence of drugs.

They were drag-racing in Protea North on March 8, 2010 when they crashed into a group of school boys. Prince Mohube, Mlungisi Cwayi, Andile Mthombeni and Phomello Masemola were killed. Frank Mlambo and Fumani Mushwana were seriously injured.

Yesterday, the High Court in Johannesburg rejected an appeal by Maarohanye against the revoking of his bail. Sentencing is scheduled to take place on November 30.

Johannesburg – Two rhino were killed at the Mafikeng Game Reserve on Wednesday, said officials.

“A mother and its calf were found dead,” said spokeswoman Dinah Ranganka.

The cow had its horns hacked off, while the calf was not dehorned. The two were found just metres from a main road.

This was the first poaching at the reserve in 2012, but around 60 rhino have been killed in the North West in 2012. – Sapa

The man behind an anti-Muslim film that led to violence in many parts of the Middle East was sentenced to a year in federal prison for probation violations in an unrelated matter, then issued a provocative statement through his attorney.

The sentence on Wednesday was the result of a plea bargain between lawyers for Mark Bassely Youssef and federal prosecutors. Youssef admitted in open court that he had used several false names in violation of his probation order and obtained a driver’s license under a false name. He was on probation for a bank fraud case.

Shortly after Youssef left the courtroom, his lawyer, Steven Seiden, came to the front steps of the courthouse and told reporters his client wanted to send a message.

“The one thing he wanted me to tell all of you is President Obama may have gotten Osama bin Laden, but he didn’t kill the ideology,” Seiden said.

Asked what that meant, Seiden said, “I didn’t ask him, and I don’t know.”

US District Court Judge Christina Snyder accepted the plea agreement and immediately sentenced Youssef after he admitted to four of the eight alleged violations, including obtaining a fraudulent California driver’s licence. Prosecutors agreed to drop the other four allegations under the plea deal, which also included more probation time.

All parties agreed that none of the violations had to do with the content of “Innocence of Muslims,” a film that depicts the Prophet Muhammad as a religious fraud, paedophile and womaniser.

However, Assistant US Attorney Robert Dugdale argued Youssef’s lies about his identity have caused harm to others, including the film’s cast and crew. Deadly violence related to the film broke out September 11 and spread to many parts of the Middle East.

“They had no idea he was a recently released felon,” Dugdale said on Wednesday. “Had they known that, they might have had second thoughts” about being part of the film.

He said they have had death threats and feel their careers have been ruined.

Seiden said his client admits to being the film’s scriptwriter but had no other involvement except what he described as being a “cultural adviser.”

Youssef, 55, was arrested in late September, just weeks after he went into hiding when the deadly violence erupted.

Enraged Muslims had demanded severe punishment for Youssef, with a Pakistani cabinet minister even offering $100,000 to anyone who kills him.

Federal authorities initially sought a two-year sentence for Youssef but settled on a one-year term after negotiating the plea deal with Youssef’s attorneys.

Prosecutors said they wouldn’t pursue new charges against Youssef- namely making false statements – and would drop the remaining probation-violation allegations levelled against him. But Youssef was placed on four years’ probation and must be truthful about his identity and his future finances.

Seiden asked that his client be placed under home confinement, but Snyder denied that request. Youssef will spend his time behind bars at a Southern California prison.

Youssef served most of his 21-month prison sentence for using more than a dozen aliases and opening about 60 bank accounts to conduct a check fraud scheme, prosecutors said.

After he was released from prison, Youssef was barred from using computers or the internet for five years without approval from his probation officer.

Federal authorities have said they believe Youssef is responsible for the film, but they haven’t said whether he was the person who posted it online. He also wasn’t supposed to use any name other than his true legal name without the prior written approval of his probation officer.

At least three names have been associated with Youssef since the film trailer surfaced – Sam Bacile, Nakoula Basseley Nakoula and Youssef. Bacile was the name attached to the YouTube account that posted the video.

“This is a defendant who has engaged in a long pattern of deception,” Dugdale said. “His dishonesty goes back years.”

Court documents show Youssef legally changed his name from Nakoula in 2002, though when he was tried, he identified himself as Nakoula. He wanted the name change because he believed Nakoula sounded like a girl’s name, according to court documents. – Sapa-AP

Northern Cape – Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga has told Northern Cape parents that their children’s sex lives are their problem and not the education department’s, The Times reported on Thursday.

In a lecture on parental rights and duties, Motshekga told parents at a National Council of Provinces meeting in De Aar they could not “pass the buck” to her department when their children fell pregnant or became substance abusers.

“Teenage pregnancy is a problem imported to schools by homes and the community. (But) it’s a department problem for us.

“They don’t make sex at schools, they make sex at homes. This is a problem. There is something wrong that it now becomes my problem. We don’t provide beds; we provide pens and books,” she said.

A Statistics SA study this year revealed that 160 754 schoolgirls fell pregnant between July 2008 and July 2010.

Banyana Banyana booked themselves a place in the final of the 8th CAF African Women Championship 2012 with a 1-0 win over No 1 ranked African side Nigeria, in a thrilling semi-final played at the Bata stadium on Wednesday, 7 November 2012.

Central defender Janine van Wyk scored the all-important goal in the 23rd minute, after the Nigerians failed to clear their lines from a South African corner kick situation, and Van Wyk was on hand to strike the ball from 25 metres out with her left foot, and watch as it dipped in off the underside of the crossbar past Nigerian goalkeeper and captain Precious Dede.

The Sasol-sponsored Banyana Banyana will face Equatorial Guinea in the grand finale of this year’s tournament in Malabo on Sunday, 11 November 2012, after the hosts defeated Cameroon 2-0 in the first semi-final played earlier in the day. Equally as important, the South African victory marked the Rainbow Nation team’s first triumph over Nigeria since Banyana Banyana made its international debut in 1993.

Particularly in the second half, the Nigerians came to the fore with attacking play but found Banjyana Banyana goalkeeper Thoko Mndaweni in fine form between the posts at the SA end of the field.

The Nigerian attacks were often neutralised by some fine SA defensive work with Liverpool Ladies centre back Amanda Sister (Sasol League Eastern Cape) combining superbly with Palace Super Falcons star Van Wyk (Sasol League Gauteng) in the heart of the Banyana Banyana defence. With the speed of Spurs Ladies WFC (Sasol League Western Cape) striker Jermaine Seoposenwe a major problem for the Nigerian rearguard, and with the experienced Portia Modise dominating the midfield tussles along with captain Amanda Dlamini and young tough-tackling Refiloe Jane, the South Africans saved their best performance at the tournament for the clash with the Nigerians.

Van Wyk is becoming a thorn in Nigeria’s flesh from a goal-scoring perspective, having netted with a superb free kick against the Super Falcons at the CAF African Women Championship 2012 held in Ekurhuleni, near Johannesburg.

“I have been in the Banyana Banyana side since 2004 and we have tried for so long to beat the Nigerians but luck has never been on our side, but now we have proved that we can compete and beat of the best on the continent,” said Van Wyk, whose strike was her 9th in a Banyana Banyana jersey.

Speaking after the game, Banyana Banyana head coach Joseph Mkhonza said: “Seeing Banyana Banyana beat Nigeria for the first time in our team’s history has left us with an amazing sense of prize and confidence ahead of Sunday’s final against the hosts Equatorial Guinea. All of our players need to be commended for their commitment and discipline shown.”

“We had to pick ourselves up after the opening match defeat against Equatorial Guinea and have applied ourselves to beat Senegal, the Democratic Republic of Congo and now Nigeria. We have some homework to do before Sunday’s final, knowing we will play in front of a large red-clad crowd in what is certain to be a packed Malabo stadium, but we will be ready for the challenge,” added Mkhonza.

The North West Province has created 21 196 job opportunities through the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) in the first quarter of the current financial year, North West Premier Thandi Modise declared on Wednesday.

According to Premier Modise’s announcement, the provincial government contributed most jobs at 9 437 followed by National government at 7 210.The lowest contribution was from municipalities at 4 549 job opportunities.

“We commend the Department of Health for creating the highest number of jobs, i.e. 4293 jobs during implementation of 295 Home Community Based Care Programme projects in the Social Sector. The second highest number of jobs were created by the Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport through 18 roads and building maintenance programme projects which created 3857 jobs,” said the Premier.

The highest number of jobs at municipal level was created by Maquassi Hills Local Municipality which delivered 673 job opportunities followed by Rustenburg Local Municipality which created which created 646 jobs.

Modise has expressed confidence that the province will in the current financial surpass the 55 830 jobs it had created in the 2011/2012 financial year as Exco has resolved that all Heads of Departments must ensure that the programme is prioritised to meet its targets, and that all senior managers should sign performance that integrate EPWP implementation and success.

South African football legends, the Class of 1996, will turn back the hands of time when they face their counterparts from Germany in a special match to honour the late Bafana Bafana assistant coach Thomas Madigage who passed away in a car accident last month.

The clash will take place on Saturday, 10 November 2012 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

Kickoff is at 17h00.

The match is an initiative that stems from the German Football Federation (DFB) and the South African Football Association (SAFA) relationship, and the event is likely to be an annual occurrence.

Both sides will play in their national team colours and while there will be no award on offer; the match is likely to live up to its top billing.

It will be a case of Bafana Bafana of old returning to the field as a unit for the first time after 16 years in which the Clive Barker-coached side stunned the whole world by lifting the continental silverware.

A big contingent of the squad that won the 

1996 AFCON have confirmed their participation in this historic match.

They are goalkeeper John Tlale, defenders Mark “Feeesh” Fish, Edward “Magents” Motale, David “Going Up” Nyathi, Neil “Mokoko” Tovey and Andrew Tucker. Zane “Koloi Ya Bakgatla” Moosa will be pulling the strings in midfield alongside strongman Linda “Mercedes Benz” Buthelezi and Dumisani “Isphithiphithi” Ngobe. Phil “Chippa” Masinga and Daniel “Mambush” Mudau are set to revive their striking partnership from their days at Mamelodi Sundowns.

 Tovey and Lucas “Rhoo” Radebe will marshal the defence.

The team will be coached by Barker and will be assisted by the legendary Nelson ‘Teenage’ Dladla.

The technical staff will include Glyn Binkin (Team Manager), Dr. Victor Ramathesele (Team Doctor) and Yusef Kodisang (Kit Manager)

The Germans squad will bring along 15 players for this clash and will also take time out to visit some parts of the country on a sight-seeing mission.

Some of the German players who have won the World Cup and others who have lifted the European Championship are part of the impressive entourage for this tournament.

They will be coached by Erick Rutemoller – a former assistant coach of the German National Team, former German U20 National Coach and has also coached Bundesliga teams FC Koln and Hansa Rostock. He is also a former Coach Instructor at the German FA.

Each half will comprise 35 minutes.

The clash will be played as a curtain-raiser to the Kaizer Chiefs /Supersport United Absa Premiership encounter meaning the R40 package will enable fans to watch the two mouth-watering matches.

The South Africans will arrive in Polokwane on Friday, 9 November and are scheduled to have a light training session at 17h00 at Seshego Stadium.

Both teams are expected to hold coaching clinics on Saturday (10 November) starting at 10h00.

Lichtenburg- A 35 year old woman, Mirriam Leinane was allegedly stabbed to death by her 26 year old boyfriend Joseph Mosegedi at Boikhutso Township near Lichtenburg North West police said.

“According to the information the suspect and the victim have been staying together at the nearby informal settlement” Makau said.

  “On Friday the deceased brothers decided to take her home as they were not happy with the relationship and did not want their sister to stay with the suspect any longer” Captain Pelonomi Makau said. 

Yesterday afternoon at about 13:00, the suspect met with the victim when she was on her way to the nearby shops.

An argument ensued and the suspect stabbed the victim with a knife on her left side of her chest.

“The victim died on the scene and the suspect was arrested” She added.

He will appear at the Lichtenburg Magistrate’s court soon.
