Banyana Banyana defeat German club

Banyana Banyana’s Olympic preparations moved up a gear with a convincing 3-1 win over German Premier League ladies side Bayer 04 Leverkusen at the Sportschule in Hennef, near Cologne, Germany on Thursday, 12 July 2012.

The Sasol-sponsored South African Senior Women’s National Team will play their final preparation match when they face Great Britain in an international friendly fixture in Birmingham, England on Sunday, 15 July 2012.  

Playing against Bayer 04 Leverkusen, captain Amanda Dlamini headed home the opening goal in the 6th minute from a free-kick taken by defender Janine van Wyk. Fifteen minutes later, Palace Super Falcons (Sasol League Gauteng) striker Portia Modise collected a through pass from midfielder Mary Ntsweng, before striking home the second goal from 30 metres out, helped by a goalkeeping fumble.

In the second half, the Germans reduced the deficit with a well-taken shot put wide of Banyana Banyana goalkeeper Roxanne Barker. Bloemfontein Celtics (Sasol League Free State) striker, substitute Sanah Mollo restored the two-goal advantage for the visitors after a powerful run down the right wing, which ended with her bullet-like shot finding the goal-net off the far upright post.

“The spirit in the camp is high with all of the 18 Olympic bound players, and the six reserves who will remain on standby in South Africa in case of injuries to the travelling players, working hard in training,” said Banyana Banyana head coach Joseph Mkhonza.

“SASCOC, SAFA and Sasol need to be thanked for making this training camp in Germany possible and the team is committed to doing their best when Banyana Banyana makes its Olympic Games debut in London later this month.”

The South Africans were further greeted by news of the confirmation of the teams to compete at the African Women Championship 2012 in Equatorial Guinea from November 4-18.

Banyana Banyana, whose best finish in the competition was as runners-up in 1995 and 2008, will be part of the action along with hosts Equatorial Guinea, Nigeria, Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ivory Coast, Ethiopia and Senegal.

NIGERIAN NATIONALIST ARRESTED FOR DRUG DEALING

Brits Police arrested a 33 year old Nigerian Nationalist yesterday, 12 July 2012 for dealing in drugs and failing to comply with the instruction of police. The police got a tip-off about the delivery of the drugs at De Kroon Primary School and they kept observation, where a silver Toyota Corolla was spotted approaching the school.

 

The suspect noticed the car and made a u-turn. The police officer approached him and he drove off. The police car chased him but could not stop until the police  fired a warning shot at his car. He still did not stop and the police officer called back – up, the suspect continued to sped off until the police fired two shots again , which hit the right rear tyre and the suspect stopped.

 

He refused to get out of his vehicle and was the police forced him to get out. They searched him and in his possession they  found R1 319-00, bank plastic packet containing 13 green tablets ( Ecstasy tablets, drugs) , 18 pieces of rock wrapped in tin foil, 12 pieces of chat in bank plastic packet, 6 pieces of chat wrapped up separately in a black plastic, Nokia 2700 and Nokia 2330.  The drugs were found under the driver’s seat. No injuries were sustained during the shooting incident and the investigation continues.

 

The  suspect will appear in Brits Magistrate court on Monday, 16 July 2012 , charged with dealing in drugs and failing to comply with the instruction of police.

Chief Justice Mogoeng joins prayer for leadership and unity

Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng will be one of the speakers at a special prayer service for unity among leaders in politics, government, the business sector, the church and other institutions is to be held in Mahikeng, North West Province this afternoon.

“The church cannot afford to watch from the sideline when our leaders are at each others’ throats and our communities are burning. Our government needs divine intervention and spiritual support to tackle challenges that it is facing,” says Pastor Joseph Khoza of the Living In Divine Purpose Ministries (LDPM).  

The prayer session hosted by LDPM in partnership with Mahikeng Minister Fellowship is scheduled to commence at the Mmabatho Miracle Crusade Big Tent situated at the Airport road intersection between Unit 15 & Unit 13.

As part of the church’s contribution towards moral regeneration, a leadership seminar to be conducted by renowned author of books on leadership, marriage and spiritual growth, Dr. Elijah Maswanganye is to be held at Unibo Chapel at 11:00 am on Monday. Entrance to the seminar is Free. 

 

NWest Office of the Premier reaches out to rural learners

The staff members of the Office of the Premier have embarked on an initiative to mark Mandela month and do their bit by giving 67 minutes of their time in a selfless effort to respond to the plight of those in abject poverty.

The initiative includes among others giving in kind to learners from disadvantaged and poor communities.

To achieve this objective staff members have contributed gifts to be handed out to three schools in the North West Province over two days. The schools that have been identified to which donations will be made are the Madiba Comprehensive School in Rooigrond, the Thutlwane and the Madibogo Pan Primary school in Madibogo Pan.

Staff members will be handing out these gifts at the respective schools and also spend the day with the learners part of a build-up programme towards the national Mandela Day event to be hosted by the province

There will also be other activities including story-telling, motivational talks as well as sporting activities.

The events will take place as follows:

Protesters burn school

Bona-Bona, North West – Fifteen school computers were burnt during the service delivery protest in Bona-Bona village in Morokweng, North West police said on Thursday.

Brigadier Thulani Ngubane said two classes and a staff room at Tlotlang Thuto Middle School were set alight on Wednesday by protesters demanding tarred roads, electricity and water in their area.

“Community members broke the burglar door of the school kitchen, took out two gas cylinders and placed them in each class,” he said.

Man held over job seeker rapes

Rustenburg, North West – A 31-year-old man was arrested on Friday for allegedly raping young women seeking employment around Rustenburg in North West, police said.

Colonel Emelda Setlhako said the man was taken into custody in Mogwase after a tip-off.

“He is alleged to have been luring young women by falsely promising them work in the mines around Rustenburg, taking their cellphones and demanding money before raping them in the nearby bushes.”

Setlhako said that on May 11, the man had approached a 19-year-old woman in Rustenburg, promising her that he would help her get a job at Impala platinum mine, as his brother was working there.

12 arrested for school arson

Eight women and four men were arrested for allegedly setting classrooms on fire and damaging 15 computers during service delivery protests in Bona-Bona, North West police said on Saturday.

Brigadier Thulani Ngubane said the 12 people faced charges of arson, public violence and malicious damage to property.

They allegedly placed two gas cylinders in two separate class rooms on Wednesday.

“They opened them and set the classrooms alight… the staff room caught fire from the two classes and 15 computers which were in the room were badly burnt,” said Ngubane.

They also set alight three water tanks.

The residents were protesting over poor service deliver in the area.

The 12 were expected to appear in the Ganyesa Magistrate’s Court on Monday. -Sapa

Crowd gathers for mayor case

A large crowd gathered outside the Rustenburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday morning ahead of the judgment in the case of the former mayor Matthew Wolmarans.

Wolmarans and his co-accused Enoch Mtshaba are appearing on a charge of killing councillor Moss Phakoe.

Phakoe was shot dead at his Rustenburg home in March 2009, two days after he had handed a document to former co-operative governance minister Sicelo Shiceka alleging corruption in the local municipality.

Gauteng traffic cops have reportedly come up with a way to make a cool R11 million a year.

Once again using motorists as cash cows, the cash-strapped National Traffic Police Unit is said to have instructed its officers to issue 15 traffic fines each a day.

f the 268 officers reach the target, they could generate more than R11 million a year.

According to insiders, the latest move is to keep afloat the unit launched last year with much hype by former transport minister S’bu Ndebele.

Balitto – Parents who let their children see age-inappropriate movies are causing more harm than they know, a Ballito clinical psychologist has warned.

Sumayyah Khan, a child, adolescent and family therapy specialist, says she has seen nightmares and bedwetting in traumatised little children for whom it is not “just a movie”.

“This is my issue. Many parents don’t take responsibility, and don’t pay attention to the age restriction when it’s a DC or Marvel comics story,” Khan said.
