Itsoseng Police are appealing to the communities around Itsoseng, Verdwaal and surrounding areas to assist in identifying an unknown body of a female estimated to be between 18 and 25 years.

The body  was discovered today 7:00am by a  passerby on an open field near Verdwaal number 2.

According to the information at our disposal the victim was assaulted on the head with an unknown object. She was wearing a pink T-shirt, red jacket, blue jeans and all star tekkies when she was found.

A case of murder has been registered. The motive of the incident is still unknown, and nobody has been arrested at this stage.  Anyone who might have seen or was with the victim before her death is requested to come forward with the information as it may assist the police in identifying the body and arrest of the suspect.

Members of the public stopped the taxi driver after seeing the metro officer being dragged under the vehicle

A taxi driver who allegedly dragged a Johannesburg metro police officer a “considerable distance” is expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday for attempted murder.

The officer attempted to stop the taxi on the M1 south highway in Johannesburg on Friday, metro police spokesman chief superintendent Wayne Minnaar said at the time.

He said members of the public stopped the taxi driver after seeing the metro officer being dragged under the vehicle near Corlett Drive.

The officer was taken to Milpark Hospital for treatment and was in a serious condition.

Transport Minister Ben Martins has urged motorists travelling on South Africa’s roads during the festive season to prioritise life above personal convenience, the department said on Sunday.

“Minister Martins says if each motorist aimed to save a life each time they got into their vehicles, the nation would make considerable progress in the fight against road carnage,” the department said in a statement.

“765 people have since been certified dead on our roads since the beginning of the festive season. Minister Martins has sent his and government’s heartfelt condolences to the families of those (killed).”

Martins said that despite all efforts by government, the private sector and civil society to curb road deaths, South Africa continues to see lives lost on its roads.

Often the situations that cause the fatalities and crashes could have been avoided, he said.

“Seventeen of the major crashes we have recorded since December 1 were head-on collisions due to dangerous overtaking,” the department said.

The department stated that with 46 percent of all road fatalities being pedestrians, it had implemented a pedestrian safety campaign.

Martins said it was unacceptable that lives continued to be lost despite efforts to raise road safety awareness.

“We need a 360-degree turn in driver attitudes if we are to succeed. People need a rethink of their responsibilities towards a safe and sustainable society,” he said.

Martins called on all traffic officers to not compromise when dealing with transgressions on the road and to deal decisively with reckless and negligent road behaviour.

He stated that corrupt traffic officers would not be tolerated by government.

“Any act of dereliction of duty on the part of any officer has potential consequences, sometimes even fatal,” said Martins. – Sapa

Benni McCarthy’s chances of playing at the African Nations Cup were effectively ruled out by coach Gordon Igesund after the Bafana victory over Malawi in Durban on Saturday.

Igesund says he understands McCarthy has a hamstring twinge and that it is unlikely he will recover in time.

The coach said he will not be selecting any players who are carrying injuries when he names his 23-man squad, which he will announce on December 30.

“The risk is too high to take injured players. I need everyone that I take along. I have not spoken to the player but I have spoken to his coach, Roger de Sa, on several occasions.”

The 35-year-old McCarthy is expected to join up with a 32-man preliminary squad on Thursday for a three-day Bafana Bafana training camp where his fitness will be assessed.

“I’m sure he’ll be honest at camp and he’ll tell me how it feels. We’ll also be able to see whether he will make it or not.”

McCarthy hurt the hamstring making his return for Bafana Bafana against Brazil in September in his first international in more than two years.

He has since played fleetingly for Orlando Pirates after a three month lay off but broke down in training last week again, his club said.

Johannesburg – Home Affairs has accused the Human Rights Commission of doing a shoddy investigation into the inhumane conditions of strippers at a Cape Town club.

The department has now asked the Western Cape High Court to instead consider getting the Hawks to investigate the plight of the strippers at Mavericks.

The request comes after the commission released a draft report on its investigation.

The draft report was issued by the commission in October, saying that while no incidence of trafficking of women could be established, the dancers’ right to dignity had been violated because women were required to perform even when they were menstruating.

The report recommended that the club comply with labour law legislation and that the Department of Labour ensure that this happen. It also recommended that the Prevention and Combating of Trafficking in Persons Bill be passed.

But, according to the department, the commission’s findings were hopelessly unreliable, its recommendations inappropriate and the court could therefore not rely on them.

“Save for its finding that the (dancers’ rights to dignity had been violated) the commission was reluctant to state categorically that there has been a violation of human rights by Mavericks,” it said in papers filed in court.

On Friday, the commission’s spokesman, Isaac Mangena, said the department’s response to the draft report was premature and the final report would only be issued on January 25.

The matter dates to October 2011, when the department withdrew the club’s two corporate permits to bring dancers into the country, alleging it did not ensure that its dancers left the country when their work permits expired.

In February, the club took the department to court to declare the withdrawal of its licences unconstitutional and to stop the department from deporting its foreign dancers.

Judge Siraj Desai dismissed the application, but ordered the commission to probe the conditions the dancers were working under.

But in papers, the department accused the commission of doing a simple on-site inspection of the premises with its manager and accounting officer.

“It is thus not surprising that during this inspection, it witnessed choreography lessons being given to a dancer. The inference is inescapable that this was staged.”

It says the commission did not try to visit the club incognito during its hours of operation to see precisely what took place.

Had it done this, it would have been able to tell how patrons interacted with women, what took place in the private booths and how the women were treated by patrons and management.

Ventersdorp- North West police arrested a 21 year-old man for murder after he stabbed a 37 year-old man to death over beer. 

This happened yesterday at boikhutsong village near ventersdorp.

“according to information received the two were at a tavern and the argument ensued over a beer. they were engaged in a fight and a 21 year-old suspect took out a knife and stabbed a 37 year-old man numerous times” she said.

Klerksdorp- A 29-year-old suspect was arrested by police after he allegedly raped a 53-year-old woman North West police said.

“This incident took place at Blinkwater,near Brakspruit in Klerksdorp yesterday at about 00:45pm” Captain Adele Myburgh said.

“The victim was asleep in her house and woke up  when she saw candlelight. She got out of bed to investigate and was overpowered by the suspect who assaulted and raped her” She said.

The police managed to arrest the suspect after following-up on a tip-off.

The suspect will appear in the Klerksdorp Magistrates’ Court soon.

Swartruggens- Police are investigating an inquest after a one year-old baby boy allegedly drowned in a bucket full of water.

“This incident happened on Friday at about 17:30 in Bordelo, Swartruggens” Captain Adele Myburgh said.

“The mother of the baby was allegedly preparing food inside the house when the baby wondered off. His body was discovered in the bucket after his mother searched  him.aa case of inquest has been opened.

Bafana Bafana got their last stretch of preparations for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations off to a winning start with a scrappy 3-1 victory over Malawi at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on  Saturday.

The hosts played their best football in the opening and closing 10 minutes of the game but struggled to hold onto possession for large portions of the game.

After a superb start to the game, it took just six minutes for Bafana to open the scoring. Lerato Chabangu lashed a shot at goal which Simplex Nthalal was only able to parry into the path of Lehlohonolo Majoro who made a simple finish from close range to bag his first goal for the national team.

Bafana were buzzing and poured forward at every opportunity. Four minutes later they would celebrate again when Reneilwe Letsholonyane’s cross was deflected across the face of goal and Siphiwe Tshabala stormed in to poke the ball over the line.

The South Africans then seemed to take their foot off the gas slightly as Malawi finally started to get the ball, but they struggled to create chances.

The goalkeeper would have to tip away a dangerous ball in from Tshabalala in the 33rd minute while David Banda saw his ferocious long-range strike dip just over the crossbar.

No more real chances came for either side in the dying minutes of the half as Bafana went into the break with a two-goal advantage.

The game continued to be scrappy after the break but just three minutes in Robert Ng’ambi went down under a challenge from Siyabonga Sangweni just inside the area. The referee was ready to book the player for simulation, but the linesman changed his mind and the referee pointed to the spot.

Josephy Kamwendo stepped up and sent Itumeleng Khune the wrong way with a perfect penalty into the top corner.

With the hosts struggling to take control, coach Gordon Igesund introduced Tokelo Rantie and May Mahlangu to give them an injection of pace.

Bafana eventually started to enjoy a little more possession but it would take a brilliant burst from Rantie to bring things to life. The forward turned his defender before flying into the area and poking the ball away from James Sangala who dove in, resulting in another penalty. Mahlangu was given responsibility and calmly sent the goalkeeper in the opposite direction.

Bafana finished strongly as they kept the Flames pinned in their own half but they were unable to take advantage with another goal as the game ended 3-1 in favour of Bafana.
