Johannesburg-South African Football Association (SAFA) CEO, Dr Robin Petersen, confirmed that the FIFA Investigation into the alleged match fixing of Bafana Bafana’s friendly games, in the lead up to the 2010 FIFA World Cup, was now complete and that the release of the findings in  a FIFA report was ‘imminent’.

“SAFA is eagerly awaiting the release of the FIFA report in order that we can take the appropriate actions and bring this unfortunate matter to a just and final conclusion,” said Dr Petersen.

In discussion with FIFA, SAFA decided not to undertake its own parallel investigation so as not to, in any way, risk compromising FIFA’s global enquiry into alleged match fixing.

“We are committed, to take appropriate steps where required as we have always maintained,” added Dr Petersen.

SAFA President, Kirsten Nematandani said he was also happy this matter was coming to its finality.
“Having cooperated with Fifa during their investigation, we are happy that this matter is coming to its conclusion and our commitment to zero tolerance to corruption is well documented. SAFA remains totally committed to working with FIFA to wipe out the scourge of corruption that is impacting on football globally,” said Nematandani.

Once again, members of the public, players, football administrators and members of the media are encouraged to report suspicious activities in football on the 24 hour anti-corruption hotline number 0800 777228
