Cape Town – The mom who allegedly sold her own 13-year-old daughter as a sex slave for R50 a time has been arrested.

She will appear in Atlantis Magistrates’ Court in the Western Cape on Monday morning charged with sexual exploitation.

She also faces a separate rape-related charge.

The woman – who cannot be named for legal reasons – was finally taken into custody on Friday.

Her arrest followed nationwide outrage after the Daily Voice last week revealed how her daughter was allegedly “rented” to men on a wasteground and outside shebeens near their Atlantis home.

Prosecutors will try to prove the woman sold her daughter for R50 to men in exchange for sex while she fed her own alcohol addiction.

“The case was opened and the mother was arrested this morning on a charge of sexual exploitation,” provincial police spokesperson Warrant Officer November Filander said on Friday.

“She will appear in court on Monday.

“The case is still under investigation.”

Detectives have yet to determine how many men the girl was allegedly forced to have sex with and for how long the nightmare continued.

The child is currently in the care of Atlantis ward councillor and shelter owner, Barbara Rass.

The alarm was raised nearly two weeks ago when the brave teenager told her friend about the abuse, and in turn alerted one of their teachers.

Barbara says she is relieved the wheels of justice have finally begun to turn for the little victim.

“I am very glad that justice has taken place,” she told the Daily Voice.

“These types of children always fall victim again, so my job now is to take care of her. The child has already said she doesn’t want to go back to her mother.”

Rustenburg- This morning at around 07:10 one of Anglo Platinum non-striking miners was allegedly beaten to death at Amandabult.

According to the eyewitness, the bus was carrying non-striking workers to work at Shaft 1 from Rethabile village.

“We were coming from Rethabile village to Shaft 1 when we came across striking miners. They hauled stones at the bus and barricaded roads” Our mole said.

“All of us ran for cover including the driver of the bus.The strikers caught one male from the bus and haul stones at him and beaten  him until he passed on” our informant said.

Our crew contacted North West police for any clarification on the story.

“Up to so far we haven’t received any news regarding the alleged story,but will work on it” Captain Makau said.

If what we received from our mole is anything to go by,the miners death toll increase rapidly.

Banyana Banyana found themselves on the end of a 4-0 drubbing by hosts Equatorial Guinea in the final of the 8th CAF African Women Championship, played in Malabo on Sunday, 11 November 2012.

The Sasol-sponsored South African national senior women’s team travelled to the Malabo New Stadium in high spirits having outplayed Africa’s No 1 side Nigeria 1-0 in Bata on the mainland on Wednesday, but came unstuck against a determined home side.

The hosts went into the break with a 1-0 lead after Gloria Chinasa took advantage of some poor defensive work to head home from a corner kick in the 43rd minute.

Playing in front of 20 000 passionate home fans, Equatorial Guinea doubled their lead in the 66th minute when second half substitute Tiga Costa scored with her first touch of the ball.

The home side were 3-0 up four minutes later, when midfielder and captain Genoveva Anonman made the South Africans pay for some sloppy defending. In the 72nd minute, Chinasa scored her second goal of the title-deciding match, after a fine run on the left before scoring from a tight angle past an outstretched Banyana Banyana goalkeeper Thoko Mndaweni.

Only Banyana Banyana captain and midfielder Amanda Dlamini looked the part on the biggest football stage in African women’s football, with a solid display in her efforts to launch attacks on the home team’s goal area.

While disappointed with the result, the outcome marks the end of a hectic 2012 campaign for the national side, which saw them in camp early in January in preparation for the London Olympics held in July.

The South African team will also be patiently waiting on the latest FIFA and African points rankings to be made public, having travelled to Malabo ranked 56th in the world (up from 61st in July) and 4th in Africa (behind Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea and All-Africa Games champions Cameroon).

In the playoff for third and fourth places, Cameroon outplayed Nigeria 1-0.

Speaking after the match, Banyana Banyana head coach Joseph Mkhonza said: “Falling at the final hurdle is a major disappointment to all involved with Banyana Banyana, particularly after the fine effort put in to record our national team’s first ever win over Nigeria in the semi-finals last week.”

Mkhonza added: “Safa and Sasol need to be thanked for their continued support of women’s football in SA since we have proved that with the current crop of players, as well as a vast pool of talent identified via the Sasol League Road Shows, Banyana Banyana should be able to qualify for international tournaments such as the World Cup and the Olympics in the future.”

Early reports from the South African Police Service say that four Polokwane City football players have lost their lives in a car accident at Nobody, just outside Polokwane.

The incident took place late Sunday afternoon (11 November 2012).

According to information from the police, the team (Polokwane City), formerly known as Bay United, was coming from playing a First Division fixture against Atlie FC (formerly known as FCAK) at the University of Limpopo.

The two teams had played to a 1-1 draw.

The Orlando Pirates duo of Oupa Manyisa and Siyabonga Sangweni have been withdrawn from the Bafana Bafana squad to face Zambia in the Nelson Mandela Challenge on Wednesday ( 14 November 2012) at Soccer City.

Kickoff is at 20h00.

Defender Sangweni missed his club’s League clash against Free State Stars on Saturday, 10 November after he was withdrawn from the starting line-up following complaints of a knee pain during the warm-up session, while midfielder Manyisa was substituted in the same match after sustaining a thigh injury in the second half.

Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund has called up Kaizer Chiefs defender Siboniso Gaxa, and Manyisa will not be replaced as the coach believes he has enough cover in the midfield.

Bafana Bafana will have a gym training session on Monday morning (12 November) starting at 10h30.

Police  in Rustenburg are investigating a case of armed robbery  and Impersonating of Traffic official.

This comes after four tourists from Germany, Dubai, Finland and Portugal were robbed of their cell phones, cameras, undisclosed amount of cash and a wrist watch by a suspect who impersonated the traffic official on Friday morning.

“A 33 year old driver and a tour guide were driving these tourists in a rented Mercedes Benz Vito on N4 road between Sun City and Tsetsing village on their way to Pilanesberg Game Reserve” Captain Makau said.

“They were stopped by the suspect wearing a traffic uniform. It is alleged that the suspect was driving a silver Mercedes Benz that parked on the left side of the road” She said.

According to the information, the suspect requested the driver’s licence and a permit to ferry passengers. When the driver could not produce the permit, he called other suspects from the Mercedes Benz.

Two suspects entered the vehicle and threatened the tour guide and tourists with firearms.

They ordered them to bow their heads beneath their seats. At that time, the suspect in traffic uniform ordered the driver to make a U turn back to Pretoria.  

On their way back they ordered the driver to drive to the nearby bush at Tlaseng village in Rustenburg.

This is where the robbery happened.

“After the robbery, the suspects got into their vehicle and drove away” Makau added.

No one was injured and the suspects are still at large.
