Madigage was not only my assistant, says Igesund

Johannesburg-Bafana Bafana head coach Gordon Igesund is devastated by the untimely death of his assistant Thomas ‘Chincha Guluva’ Madigage, who passed away in a car accident in the early hours of Friday morning (19 October 2012).

 

“I have known Tommy for many years, he was not only my assistant, he was much more than that. He was a friend. Since working together, he had become part of my family. You can’t get a better human being than what Tommy was. He was humble, loyal, committed and sincere. He was so happy to be a part of the Bafana Bafana set-up and he had so much to contribute,” said Igesund.

 

The coach added that Madigage’s death was not only a loss to the national team, but to the whole country.

 

“Tommy, who was a committed ZCC member, still had so much to contribute to the country and his loss will be felt by all South Africans. He was so looking forward to the Nations Cup finals and it will be very difficult to participate without him. We will dedicate our Nations Cup campaign to him,“ added the head coach.

 

“My whole technical team, including assistant coach Serame Letsoaka and goalkeeper coach Alex Heredia are deeply saddened by the loss and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.”

 

Igesund concluded by saying that such tragedies placed football into the perspective.

 

“We often think that football is very important, but compared to this, it is nothing.”

Chiefs crashed out of TKO

Bidvest Wits beat Kaizer Chiefs 3-2 to knock them out of the Telkom Knockout on Friday.

Matthew Pattison scored one goal and provided two assists, and deservedly received the Man of the Match award.

 

Chiefs were pushing from the first whistle, and in the fifth minute Siphiwe Tshabalala had a free-kick that found the head of Mulomowandau Mathoho, but Ryan Harrison parried the ball out.

 

Tefu Mashamaite managed to get a header on target from the resulting corner, but this time Harrison made a comfortable save.

 

Two minutes later Kingston Nkhatha had a great chance, after James Mayinga failed to control a long ball, but the striker hit just wide.

 

Wits opened the scoring against the run of play, when Pattison got away from his man outside the box and hit home from range, somehow beating Arthur Bartman.

 

Six minutes later the Clever Boys went 2-0 up when Papy Faty made his way between the central defenders and bundled Pattison’s free-kick into the net.

 

Chiefs had a couple of chances to get back into the game, with Siyabonga Nkosi bending a shot past the outside of the post and George Lebese hitting just wide.

 

Sweswe sent a header over the crossbar after another good Pattison free-kick a few minutes later.

 

Just after half an hour, Lebese had a run into the box and found Nkhatha, but the striker sent his header over the bar and Wits held onto their lead going into the break.

 

That proved to be Nkhatha’s last meaningful involvement in the game as he was replaced by Majoro straight after the interval.

 

In the 64th minutes Amakhosi found a gap, when Parker collected a pass from Lebese inside the box, turned, and scored.

 

Chiefs sent men forward in search of the equaliser, but Wits were the team to capitalise, when Pattison bowled forward and hit a pass to Koapeng to sidefoot home.

 

A few minutes later, however, Majoro lost his marker and hit home past an exposed Harrison.

Police discovered stolen stock

Lehurutshe- Police discovered stolen stock at Nokaneng village after 18 sheep and 18 goats were stolen in its kraal.

North West police opened a stock theft after a villager realised that his livestock was missing.

“A case of stock theft was opened by complainant on Thursday after discovered that his 18 sheep and 18 goats were stolen from its kraal” Captain Nkala said.

Police received tip-off from a community member that missing stock were allegedly taken to Northam in Limpopo for auction.

“Police went there and the complainant only managed to identify 15 sheep and 7 goats. The investigations continue and any one with information can come forward” she said.

Human skeleton found by workers

Potchefstroom- A human skeleton was discovered by road maintenance along the road.

North West police said the workers were busy doing maintenance along Potchefstroom/Parys road when they came across this guesome event.

“Police were called to the scene after workers discovered human skeleton. According to information police found a skull and bones 3km adrift” Captain Tselane Nkala said.

Police are asking for any information that could lead to more details.

The skeleton seems to be buried in shallow grave.

“We asking for any information that can help us to unfold the drama. It looks like the skeleton has more than five years lying there” she said.

Police arrested 19 people in Taung

Manokwane- Police arrested 19 protesters for public violence in Manokwane near Taung.

According to information received the residents of Manokwane started embarking on illegal strike yesterday.

The residents resumed the strike after they stopped for while.

They are demanding a clinic in their area and also say the road that leads into Manokwane must be tarred.

“We can confirm that North West police arrested 19 protesters in which three were minors and were released under their parental care” Captain Tselane Nkalane said.

“Police are vissibly monitoring the area. The residents started to barricade roads using tree branches and stones. Police were called and dispersed the crowd” She continues.

The residents were allegedly engaged in talks with Mayor, but their meeting was futile and this prompted them to embark on strike.

It has been a while since residents embark on strike and once burnt two houses.

Those who were arrested will appear in Taung Magistrate Court on Monday.

Explosive detonators discovered in a farm

Taung- North West police were called to scene at a farm were explosive detonators were discovered.

Police were informing by a farmer about the explosive that were allegedly discovered at his farm at  Schietfontein.

“Police rushed to the scene and on their arrival, they found electric explosive detonators lying on the ground and others in a box in the bush near Brits Toll plaza, along N4 high- way towards the direction of Pretoria” Captain Tselane Nkala said.

 “Members of Bomb Explosive Unit, Dog unit,Local Criminal Record Center were summoned to the scene” she continues.

It was found that there were 200 detonators, and according to the quantity written on a box from Sasol company,400 detonators packed in each box,and there was a suspicious that others are missing.

According to the information received,  police also discovered  a cattle herder who was burnt and injured by the explosives in his face, legs and hands.

He was transported to Brits Hospital for medical treatment and was admitted.

The area where the explosive were found was also searched by Dog Unit to check if is there any lead towards arresting the perpetrators.

A case of illegal possession of Explosive was opened for further investigation.

 

 

 

Police are investigating and trying to establish if there is any foul play. A case of Arson has been opened.

 

 

 

 

Chiefs “tired” but determined


Kaizer Chiefs take on Bidvest Wits in the Telkom Knockout tonight, and Stuart Baxter says Amakhosi are “going all out” to win it.

The coach says his preparations for the match were “compromised” by the absence of eight players in national duty, but admits: “A big club has to live with that nowadays. There is little we can do.”

Chiefs tried unsuccessfully to have their match postponed.

Amakhosi will be missing Itumeleng Khune, whose sister passed away recently.

“The players from the national team are bit tired but fit for the game against Bidvest Wits,” Baxter tells the club’s official website.

“I was pleased with the performance of some of the players during the Macufe Cup. Some really pushed hard something that we appreciate as the technical team. We are moving in a period where we will have lot of games, in November alone I think we have five.”

Chiefs have won the Telkom Knockout three times in the past five years, and Baxter says his team are “going all out” to win it again.

Amakhosi beat the Clever Boys 3-1 in the League in September, but Baxter says they are not taking the game lightly.

“We are playing against a tough opposition in Bidvest Wits. They have assembled a good team with exceptional players. The game will be different to the League game we played a couple of weeks ago.

“We are thinking that we are in it and we are going all out to win it, if we have to we have to go all out and win at Bidvest on Friday evening.”

De Sa: We know what’s at stake


Roger de Sa says the Telkom Knockout defending champions are not resting on their laurels ahead of their match against Black Leopards on Saturday.

“Playing away is always difficult but I believe in the work we have been doing will take us through to the next round,” De Sa tells Bucs’ official website.

“I had the opportunity to work with the entire squad during the break and the preparations went well.”

De Sa says as the visiting team Pirates will have to stay confident and work hard.

“We have to impose ourselves on Saturday despite being the visiting team – this is a tough competition and the players know what is at stake,” the coach says.

“We are the defending champions of the competition but that title only carries weight for the work done last season.

“This year we have a new competition and with it comes new challenges. We have to play our best football if we want to win the match – it is going to be tough match but we know what we have to do.”

2 held for hijacking


Johannesburg – Two men were arrested after they hijacked a motorist at gunpoint in Naledi, Soweto police said on Friday.

“They hijacked a Honda sedan and drove towards Jabulani [on Thursday night],” said Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela.

“Police spotted them and gave chase. The driver lost control of the Honda and crashed into a wall.”

The men, aged 20 and 24, are due to appear in the Protea Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Angry miners stone Vavi’s car – reports

Cape Town – Cosatu General Secretary Zwelinzima Vavi’s car was pelted with stones on Friday while visiting striking miners in Orkney, reports say.

Vavi was on his way to visit a third hostel at AngloGold’s mine when angry workers attacked the vehicle.

SABC journalist Pearl Magubane tweeted: “#orkneymine Vavi’s car stoned on his way to itereleng residential – 3rd hostel.”

#AngloGold media told to leave the area because “it is too dangerous”, after Vavi’s car was pelted with stones,” Aldrin Sampear, a Jacaranda FM journalist tweeted.

Earlier, miners at a different hostel became hostile while Vavi was addressing them, with many walking away.
