Manokwane- Police arrested 19 protesters for public violence in Manokwane near Taung.
According to information received the residents of Manokwane started embarking on illegal strike yesterday.
The residents resumed the strike after they stopped for while.
They are demanding a clinic in their area and also say the road that leads into Manokwane must be tarred.
“We can confirm that North West police arrested 19 protesters in which three were minors and were released under their parental care” Captain Tselane Nkalane said.
“Police are vissibly monitoring the area. The residents started to barricade roads using tree branches and stones. Police were called and dispersed the crowd” She continues.
The residents were allegedly engaged in talks with Mayor, but their meeting was futile and this prompted them to embark on strike.
It has been a while since residents embark on strike and once burnt two houses.
Those who were arrested will appear in Taung Magistrate Court on Monday.
