Bafana suffer another defeat

By Obakeng Maje

Warsaw- Bafana Bafana showed no character against Poland that is rated number 54 in FIFA rankings.

Kaizer Chiefs skipper,Itumeleng Khune was very impressive and showed why he is South Africa’s number one goalkeeper.

He denied Poland striker,Piech a golden opportunity on the 21st minute when he came one on one with only goalkeeper to beat.

The game started in much less anticipation prior the affront between two coaches.

New Bafana coach, Gordon Igesund did not approve the match against European oppositions as he said he prefer an African team regarding much anticipated Afcon 2013 tournament that will be hosted here.

Bafana captain,Bongani Khumalo header went wide from a corner-kick. Poland executed their moves very well when the put more pressure on Bafana defence that was very shaky at times.

Khune again came to the fore again when he saves South Africa embarassment when his shaky defence tried to play an offside trap.

Igesund introduced Letsholenyane after the interval and South Africa showed more agility.

Also we saw Sundowns midfield Teko Modise coming in for Myeni who was the weakest link to strengthen the midfield.

There were little bit of affinity between two teams as they were very cautious at times.

They tried to catch each other on counter and Periquos was a thorn on Bafana flesh.

We saw Bafana totally losing a plot when they suffered another defeat when Bafana shaky defence failed to pick up Komorwaski in the 18 yard.

Komorwaski showed affability by scoring a simplest goal ever from Sangweni’s mistake who misjudged the ball.

“We worked very hard and it was a good test for us.Of course it is very disappointing as we lost, but we still have a long way to go. I tried different players and now I know which players to pick on next time” Igesund said.

Gordon Igesund plans went awry and will have to redeem themselves on Tuesday. He suffered his second defeat in the helm.

Bafana Bafana will play against less-impressive opponents,Kenya on another friendly on Tuesday.

Stock theft suspects nabbed

Image

The stock theft unit makes the space very small for those who are stealing the livestock from the Northern Cape farmers.

Since the launch of the Operation Meat Master, the farmers can now farm peacefully, without being terrorised by the livestock criminals.

The Meat Master Operation is an on-going crime prevention operation; the police will not stop to squeeze the world of the livestock criminals to zero.

The focus of the Meat Master Operation is to address the stock theft within the Northern Cape Province. The operation Meat Master ran in the area of De Aar for three weeks.

On Sunday, 30 September 2012, the operation was terminated. The operation has yielded positive results.

“Eight suspects were arrested on Sunday evening, after several transactions were made with the suspects. The police confiscated 24 sheep, which were stolen from three farmers in the area of De Aar, since the 10th   to 30th of September. The market value of the livestock confiscated is

R 61500″ police said .

All eight suspects appeared before De Aar Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday on charges of stock theft.

The police handed over all twenty four sheep to their rightful owners, who are farmers from the De Aar area.

During the identification of the sheep it was very easy to identify these sheep, because they were correctly branded and tattooed.

The farmers are encouraged to continue counting their livestock every day, because this will assist them to know when their livestock was stolen or missing from the farm.

Nkandla renovations come out of Zuma’s pocket

Image

JOHANNESBURG – The Zuma family will continue to pay for upgrades in Nkandla which are not linked to state security, the Presidency said on Thursday.

It also rejected “the ongoing campaign by the media” of linking every development around the KwaZulu-Natal village to President Jacob Zuma.

The Presidency said it rejected the mischievous and inaccurate insinuation that the upgrade and construction of roads around Nkandla was because of favouritism – as the president lives there.

The Mercury newspaper reported this week that a stretch of road linking Zuma’s village to Kranskop had been built at a cost of R290 million, while another road to Eshowe cost R292 million.

The Presidency said the road construction started in 2003, and that Nkandla was one of 23 districts identified by the government for development.

It also said the upgrade of Zuma’s residence began long before he became president, and that it was a family decision to start the extensions – paying out of their own pockets.

I wish other prisoners could kill “sunday rapist”: Victim’s mother

Image

Today a year ago, Louise de Waal was murdered and her body burnt.

Three weeks ago, her killer, the infamous Sunday Rapist, was jailed for the murder of the 16-year-old schoolgirl and the rape and sexual assault of several other victims.

By South African standards, justice was fast, and fitting, because Johannes Jacobus Steyn, 36, won’t be allowed out for at least the next 80 years. Judge Sita Kolbe gave him five life sentences and an additional 170 years inside when she convicted him on 33 of 37 charges ranging from murder to culpable homicide, rape, sexual assault, kidnapping and attempted kidnapping.

Steyn killed Louise, while another victim, Lazanne Farmer, died while trying to escape from his moving bakkie.

Steyn’s modus operandi was to sexually molest or rape girls on Sundays when he had told his wife he would be performing community service at a Krugersdorp hospital, following his conviction in 2007 for molesting children.

Louise’s mother Shireen hopes he’ll never be released. Judge Kolbe said in her judgment she doubted Steyn could ever be rehabilitated. De Waal hopes Steyn will be killed in jail.

She had to sit in court and listen to the horrendous details of what Steyn forced Louise to do to him, and then hear the forensic details of how Louise was still alive when Steyn set her alight.

If De Waal could, she would kill him herself, not before hurting him as badly as Steyn hurt her family. She hopes other prisoners will get to him.

The murder destroyed De Waal’s life and almost imploded the larger family. “I lost my daughter, I lost my job and then I lost my home,” De Waal said on Thursday. She has since got a job through wellwishers and supporters, but she has had to move in with her sister.

For all of them, the pain never eases. The build-up to the anniversary today has been particularly hard.

“We’re all taking it very badly, my mother, my sister, my elder daughter. We all cry at different times. We sit quietly in different corners. We’re short-tempered with each other; we know that if anyone says anything, we might snap.”

The worst thing for De Waal is the emptiness and the immediacy of what happened.

It’s a year today since Steyn abducted Louise on the way to Hoërskool Die Burger on the West Rand, took her to his home, raped her and then took her to Magaliesburg, where he burnt her body.

All De Waal has left is an album of pictures and her daughter’s belly ring. “It feels like it happened yesterday, not a year ago. I feel incredible longing and anger.” Not even fronting up to Steyn helped.

“I’m a very quiet person, and that particular day , I felt I needed to face him. I needed him to know that I was Louise’s mother and that he had killed my daughter. I felt better for getting it off my chest, but I just want to kill him now, I want to hurt him the way he has hurt me and my family.

“People ask me if I’m bitter. Yes I am, he took away my life, my little girl who was the life and soul of the party, into whose life we had all placed so much hope.”

Like her greatest supporter Denise Goldin, whose actor son Brett was killed by gangsters in Cape Town in 2006, De Waal intends doing everything possible to ensure Steyn never gets out on parole. “I’ll never forgive him. He’ll never make parole. I’ll be at every parole hearing to make sure of that.”

On Thursday night, she slept at her daughter Jessica’s house. Today they were due to plant a lemon tree in Jessica’s garden. “Louise loved lemons. I just want to be able to sit back quietly and watch this tree grow.”
