Bloemhof- The South African Police Service in the North West Province will embark on an awareness campaign
(Illegal concoction), on Friday 28 September 2012 at Boitumelong Hall in Bloemhof, at 10:00.
From 1 September 2012, police in Bloemhof concentrated on all illegal liquor outlets with the emphasis on illegal concoction sold to members of the community.
“During the crime prevention operation done in September, eight people were found selling concoction and were issued with fines under liquor Act 29/1989 Article 135(1)(b)”.
“The illegal concoction recovered at shebeens and houses was destroyed by pouring it inside drains, and containers used for brewing were confiscated by police” Brigadier Thulani Ngubane.
In 2011 police managed to close 31 illegal shebeens and from January to September 21 shebeens have been closed
It is alleged that the there are two different illegal concoctions made with the following ingredients: a mixture of radio batteries
( PM 9&10), old shoes, rotten brown bread, old clothing, peels of bananas, rotten oranges, yeast, expired maize meal, pineapple.
According to the information received from the Department of Health, people drinking this concoction suffers from Tuberculosis and skin disease.
