Imagine having an exciting high paying job as a professional model. Imagine walking down a runaway at a designer fashion show having your photo taken for your favourite magazine.

Our crew sitting on a hot seat with a Mokgareng-born model, Kefuoe Damane when she let a little bit of her. So seatback and enjoy as a sassy model take us through her fantasy.

As a model you may have the oppotunity to travel to beautiful locations,be pampered, attend events with celebrities and earn thousands of rands a day.

Modelling can also lead to many other fabulous opportunities including acting as we saw our own renowned Bonang Matheba. By the way Matheba as earned an acting role on an up and coming Intersexion series.

But the young model feels unfazed about the competition, instead believes she can hold her own,so she send a stern warning to already established models in the country, that she will give them a run for their money!!!

Where does it all started?

KD: I was born in Taung, Mokgareng back in 1990. I finished my matric back in 2007, at PH Moeketsi.

I was brought up by both parents and they were very supportive.

Life had its own ups and downs, but I never gave up.

My father lost his job while I was still at school and that resulted on my matric certificate be witheld as i had outstanding balance.

How impotant education is nowadays?

KD:I am currently studying towards degree in Agriculture at University of Technology, Bloemfontein.I am copying and working hard even though I am under pressure.

I want to obtain master degree in Animal production,so books and more books. she laughs.

Personal life

I am a down to earth person with bigger ambitions. I do not have kids, and not planning to have one anytime soon.

I am kind,a loving person.

I am beautiful in and out.

I am very strong woman, and do not give up easily.

Something bad happened to me last month, but  i stood up on my feet again and move on.

Career

I was actually made to believe that i got what it takes,as I lacked self-believe and my self-esteem was low, i could not imagine myself cracking it as a model.

I took part in a beauty peagant at CUT in 2010 and guess what, I was crowned Miss CUT. And I refused to defend my tittle and coincidently met with other white lady who asked me to shoot pictures for her page.

I am inspired by most recognisable and in demand model, Naomi Campbell. She graced covers of most well-established magazines around the world.

Even though without any formal qualifications in modelling,I am positive that I will breakthrough and make it big. I have a biggest professional photo-shoot coming up,and I am working on getting formal training in modelling.

On alcohol and substance abuse.

I think out of any crisis we facing, we can get something positive out of it. So to all the youth of South Africa, let’s change our way of thinking.

The ball is in your court,so let’s make most of it. Alcohol is one of the most destructive components amongst the youth that lead to unsafe sex and eventually be infected with HIV and AIDS.

If she can become a president for a day?

I will make sure that equality prevails and all people ocupying government positions deserve them.

Damane is available for any promotions and advertising for any products.

Marikana miners march to Police Headquarters in Rustenburg

Image

Rustenburg-Police on Saturday fired rubber bullets at protesters and seized weapons from hostels at platinum giant Lonmin in an operation to quell unrest in the mining sector.

Soldiers were also deployed as back-up in the troubled Rustenburg platinum belt where militant protests have forced several mine closures since police gunned down 34 people last month at Lonmin’s Marikana mine.

The troops had been sent in to Marikana at the request of the police, said Brigadier General Xolani Mabanga. But the police were leading the operation, he added.

Forces moved into Marikana less than 24 hours after the government announced a security clampdown. The unrest has forced three leading producers to halt mining operations on the world’s richest platinum deposits.

The striking miners said there would be a “peaceful march” on Sunday, heading towards the police headquarters in Rustenburg.

“Everyone will be here. No vandalising, maybe sticks but no iron. It will be a peaceful march, But I can’t guarantee there won’t be rubber bullets,” said one of the strike leaders, who called himself Gadaffi.

Sunday will mark a month since the 34 miners were killed on August 16.

Five hundred police officers, assisted by the army, raided hostels at Lonmin’s mine at 2am on Saturday, seizing piles of metal rods, machetes and sticks.

AMCU “excluded” in wage talks

Image

JOHANNESBURG – The Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) said it was shocked and angered after it was not informed about a new offer from mining bosses.

On Saturday, the National Union of Mineworkers (Num) announced that Lonmin increased its wage offer for striking Marikana miners.

The mining giant offered a R1,300 increase for basic workers.

But Amcu’s Joseph Mathunjwa claims his union was excluded from wage negotiations.

Meanwhile, a tribal council leader in Marikana believes the injuries sustained by some of his colleagues show that live ammunition was used to disperse the crowds.

Glen Setuke said he was giving miners feedback on the wage negotiations when police stormed through the veld and fired rubber bullets on Saturday.

At least 14 people were arrested and several others injured.

Setuke said hospital personnel could not determine if the injuries were caused by rubber bullets.
