The South African Police Service in conjunction with other social partners will embark on a public education and awareness campaign amongst the youth and schools in Ikageng and Promosa on Thursday, 2012-07-26.
The program was initiated as a preventative measure to address the root causes of crime reported in Ikageng, specifically rapes, domestic violence, murders, assaults as well as drug-related crimes. Drugs and substance abuse has been identified as the contributing factor in terms of many crimes that are being reported at the police.
The objective of this program is to raise maximum awareness in public places, such as schools, shopping centers, taxi terminals, taverns, shebeens and at residential homes.
The project will commence with a motorcade from Ikageng SAPS,08:00-12:30. All interested parties/community members are invited to attend this project and to participate in the motorcade.
Team of experts will be addressing learners at identified Primary Schools in Ikageng and Promosa. Later at 14:00 Grade 11 learners will engage in a debate around drug and substance abuse at OR Tambo Hall.
The South African Police Service would like to encourage all members of the community to become involved in crime prevention programs and to assist the police to bring perpetrators to book. “Together, we can squeeze crime to zero”.
