Jackie Selebi granted medical parole

Jackie Selebi. (Werner Beukes, Sapa)

Pretoria – Corruption-convicted former police commissioner Jackie Selebi will be released from prison on Friday, Correctional Services MinisterSibusiso Ndebele announced in Pretoria.

“Mr Selebi will be going home today [Friday],” he told a media briefing in Pretoria.

“The department has limited capacity to provide for palliative care needed by some offenders,” said Ndebele.

Palliative care meant he would be kept comfortable until his death, as there was no hope of him recovering.

Dialysis

An 11-member medical parole advisory board met on June 20 and recommended the release of six offenders, including Selebi, who needed dialysis for kidney failure.

Three of them had since died, said Ndebele.

Selebi was the president of Interpol at the time of the investigation into claims that he received money from convicted drug trafficker and police informer Glenn Agliotti.

He was convicted of corruption on July 2, 2010, and handed a 15-year jail sentence.

Selebi appealed against the corruption conviction in the Supreme Court of Appeal. His appeal was denied.

In December 2011, he collapsed at home in Waterkloof, Pretoria, while watching the judgment on television.

The appeal outcome meant he had to begin his 15-year jail sentence for corruption. It was decided he would stay in Pretoria Central prison’s medical wing indefinitely.

At the time he had not instructed his medical team to apply for medical parole. Selebi had also been trained to administer his own treatment. He suffered from diabetes and kidney disease.

LEPORA COMES OUT BLAZING!!!!!

Succezz Lepora.jpg

There are times when one wonders if one can get more than enough success, and if one looks at Lepora, one could say “probably” his FORTUNE  is causing major waves around the province, likely due to the fact that this is a more raw side to Lepora. In 2012 alone,he is planning to make it bigger and better!!!!

BY Obakeng Maje

Intro
Have you ever dreamt or felt like hearing
a combination of Tuks senganga, Mo‟
Molemi and HHP in a song? I am talking
about a young matured version of those
motswako heavyweights combined with a
bit of “gangster” mind feel on it… Oh by
the way, by “gangster” I mean “smart”, as
Succezz Lepora terms it. That is
something new isn‟t? Well to Succezz
Lepora this is not new; it has been there
since he started to consider himself a
Motswako Arti

Succezz Lepora.jpg

Early life
Born Katlego Emmanuel Nchoe in Goloko,
Ganalaagte, the Bundus of Delareyville, or
Lichtenburg „„Nna ga ke itse gore Goloko e
wela kae, I just know gore e ko Tswaing
municipality‟‟. There weren‟t role models when
Succezz was growing up, but he didn‟t let that
stop him from achieving his goals. He was
especially interested in Music, Soccer and
Karate. Unluckily, his parents never
encouraged nor discouraged those interests.
As a matter of fact, Succezz Lepora has
numerous times said… He thinks his parents
never had interest in him. That drove him to be
the loner type of a child, singing to keep him or
his mind occupied, „eh Joe I found comfort in
singing or rapping…

Schooling
He graduated from Charora high school in
Chaneng, Rustenburg at 18! Then he earned
his degree in Corporate Communications at
University of Johannesburg (RAU). No
obstacle was too great for Succezz Lepora to overcome! His accomplishments did
not end there. In 2007, he auditioned and went to the SABC‟s variety music show
Jam Alley, where he overpowered his competitors, but he did not realise his dream
of being interviewed by V-Mash as she was no longer there.

Music
In 2010, however,
Lepora realized his
dream: he went to Jam
Alley for a special 2010
World Cup show where
he was eventually
interviewed by V-Mash.
Just few months later
Succezz Lepora was
performing at Dj
Lemonka‟s chillas
sessions in Itsoseng,
where heavyweights like
HHP nodded to him with
approval, “Jabba
actually took his hat off for my performance (literally)” Succezz was later on invited to
Motsweding Fm by Lesego Lekgetho, during that time he was busy with Kay E of
„bona re etsang fame‟ and Oz “of ngifuni imali yam‟‟ fame, doing a 2010 World cup
theme song, which earned them airplay and interviews on several radio stations.

Tsela Kgopo Mixtape Album
This is the most anticipated motswako mixtape after Dj Lemonka‟s second volume of
his award winning
motswakotape, which Succezz
Lepora recorded a track for, but
unfortunately it did not meet
Lemonka‟s standard. This
project named Tsela
kgopo…meaning “A short Rough
Road” was inspired by his
endeavours in life…the Mixtape
includes story telling songs like
“they say‟‟ where he speaks
about what he has been through,
with people always
talking…positively and
negatively, he has also done a
tribute to women…specifically single parenting women as he was raised by a single
mother himself…coming from an unknown village in the North West, being the first
one at that village to be on TV, to get a degree, to be on Radio, and to pass Matric
with distinctions…!!! Ga te Leina lebe ke seromo…‟Ina entle lona ke Letlhogonolo!! A
self-fulfilling prophecy ka puo ya se-eng.

NM DUT1

She’s a little girl with a sweet smile and, at first glance, she looks no different from any other child. But she is a survivor of a vicious rape and eye-gouging attack near her home in Gingindlovu, in Zululand, and now she has been given new hope.

It was just a few months ago when this eight-year-old’s story shocked SA.

She was raped, bitten and one of her eyes was gouged out by a 15-year-old boy. but on Thursday she appeared at ease at the Durban University of Technology’s dental clinic, where she was fitted with a prosthetic eye.

Goodwood, Cape Town – A man was fined by the Goodwood Magistrate’s Court on Thursday after he was caught driving drunk while on his way to fetch his irritated wife.

Martin de Vries, 59, was fined R1500 or 100 days in jail after pleading guilty to driving over the limit.

He told magistrate Sean Lea he had been celebrating Father’s Day with a friend when he was called by his wife, who needed a lift.

“My wife sounded agitated, and insisted that I fetch her at home even after I had explained to her that I had been drinking and should not drive,” De Vries said.

Sputla, ‘mayor of nyaope’

hawkers march

Angry hawkers who have been removed from the streets of the Pretoria inner city by metro police gathered outside council headquarters on Thursday, claiming mayor Kgosientso (Sputla) Ramokgopa was the “mayor of nyaope” (a concoction of dagga and heroin).

Their chants were backed by accusations that, while metro police clamped down on street vendors selling mostly fruits and vegetables, drug dealers were allowed to roam free.

Charmaine Makgalathiba, an 18-year-old woman whose aunt, Margaret Makgalathiba, sells nuts on the city’s streets, says she does not feel safe when she walks along Brown Street, because of robbers and drug dealers.

“If selling on the street is illegal, then why are the people selling drugs not stopped as well?” she asked.

We voted for him (Ramokgopa) and now he is drunk on power, Tshwane Informal Traders Forum (TITF) member Shoes Maloka told the crowd of marchers brandishing papers that read, “ANC give back our votes” and “DA is our last hope”.

“There are people selling nyaope in the city until 11 at night and he (Ramokgopa) cannot catch them. But he wants to remove us for selling food. He must be smoking nyaope himself,” he Maloka said.

Ramokgopa was the one sending cops to chase hawkers from the streets, he said.

Juliette Ngobeni, who sells a variety of fruits and snacks on the corner of Thabo Sehume (Andries) and Minnaar streets, spoke of her concern: “They do not want us to sell. And we have to pay for more than one licence to sell in one spot, where there is not even shelter from the rain.”

19 SAFA Level 3 coaches graduate

BY Obakeng Maje

Nineteen (19) coaches have graduated in the South African Football Association’s (SAFA) Level 3 Pro Licence coaching course.

The graduation ceremony took place on Tuesday, 17 July 2012 at SAFA House, with the certificates being handed out by SAFA President Kirsten Nematandani, SAFA CEO Dr Robin Petersen and Markus Bollmohr, Head of Culture and Sport at the German Embassy.

Also in attendance were Ashford Mamelodi and Juerg Nepfer from FIFA.

At the beginning there were 27 coaches. Two dropped out due to work commitments, while the other six still have to complete.

The course started with the first phase six months ago (16 January), and ended last month (13 June).
“It is never too late to learn, you need to continue because the more you learn the better you become in your field. You have been given the opportunity to brighten the corner where you with this course. Go out there and make a difference and don’t wait for your certificate to do the talking for you, because ultimately it is what you do that will matter,” said SAFA President Kirsten Nematandani.

“Our gratitude goes to the German Football Association which is our partner, and this course is the climax of that relationship.”

This is the second course in two years, and carries the highest qualification on the continent. Last year 33 coaches graduated, and these include Thomas Madigage and Serame Letsoaka, who are both Bafana Bafana assistant coaches, as well as Alex Heredia who is the goalkeeper coach.

“Congratulations to the participants for succeeding in this demanding course. You are the key to the development of this country, and I am confident this Level 3 coaching course will continue for a long time to come. I am also optimistic that it will become the benchmark for South African coaches,” said Bollmohr.

The SAFA Level 3 Pro-Licence coaching course is the highest coaching qualification offered in South Africa. It was conducted over a period of seventy days (70 days) in seven phases made up of different modules covering a variety of topics.

It was conducted by SAFA Director of Coaching Education Michael Nees, with the assistance of SAFA instructors Frans Mogashoa, Steve Coetsee and Urban de Kock. Almost 30 guest lecturers were also involved in the course.

“This course took 70 days, and included the required four–week traineeship at a professional club, a lot of research, as well as the study time for exams and presentations. Some coaches might have spent up to 1000 hours learning time in relation to the course. I believe that this is a course of highest quality and intensity, and everybody who passed the 9 different exams deserves the certificate” said SAFA Director of Coaching Education Michael Nees.

Fran Hilton Smith, Technical Director of Women’s Football, and also a FIFA and CAF Instructor, says the course is ranked amongst the best in the World and that coaches were well equipped to make a difference in South African football.

Some of the topics covered included the following:

Phase 1   16 – 29 January 2012
Tactical training and Modern Match Analysis

Phase 2   6 – 15 February 2012
Modern Match and Training Analysis

Phase 3   27 Feb – 7 March 2012
Physical training and Sports Science

Phase 4   10 – 19 April 2012
Psychology and football training (Mental skill training)

Phase 5   5 – 10 May 2012
Pedagogic – teaching as an instructor, Youth Development and technical training

Phase 6   21 – 30 May 2012
Integration of all different coaching modules

Phase 7   4 – 13 June 2012

“If you thought this was the end, then you are mistaken – actually this is just the beginning of the road. We have put in the hard work, and now we must just go out there and not stop because we have certificates. We have the chance to take this process forward and return our country to greater heights,” said Augustine Makalakalane, one of the graduates.
