SA employment figures show 2% drop in June


Sharpest declines were recorded in agriculture (12%), transport (8%) and mining at 8.1%.

Employment in South Africa continues to fall sharply. Employment fell at an annualised rate of 2% in June, according to the latest ADCORP employment figures. In May, employment in the country declined by 3%.

Adcorp says job losses in June amounted to 31 781, bringing the total job losses for the past two months to 85 520. The latest numbers suggest that most sectors, apart from wholesale and retail trade, reported a decline. The sharpest declines were recorded in agriculture (12%), transport (8%) and mining at 8.1%.
