Premier Modise conveys condolences to family of slain nurse!!!

The premature and gruesome murder of Kekgonne Patricia Kaoreka is a stark reminder that a lot still need to be done to protect women and girl children against the scourge of violence in our society, North West Premier Thandi Modise said ahead of 26-year-old nursing sister’s memorial service to be held at the Mmabatho Civic Centre in Mahikeng on Thursday.

“In conveying condolences to the Kaoreka family on the loss of their shining star, we wish to say that we are saddened and angered by their daughter’s murder at the prime of her life. She is like a rose that was picked before it could blossom. Her death has robbed communities of a health worker who still had so much to offer. Her achievements in her short but productive life were any mother’s wish for an ideal daughter,” emphasised Premier Modise.     

Kaoreka who was a nursing sister at Carletonville Hospital was allegedly last seen alive on 9 March this year hitch hiking for a lift to Mahikeng. Forensic tests conducted on decomposed remains found on an open veld in Venterdorp two week ago confirmed that they were those of the missing Kaoreka.

She is to be buried on Saturday at the Mmabatho cemetery. 

 Modise appeals to women to refrain from hitch hiking or accepting lifts from strangers as the fight against the scourge violence against women is compounded by the fact that in most cases perpetrators are even known to victims either as friends and or family.

N West aims for maximum innovation to improve service delivery

A Provincial Road Show to improve and maximise participation in this year’s Centre for Public Service Innovation Awards programme as part of the rollout of government’s strategy to unlock innovation and improve service delivery is to be hosted by Office of the Premier in the North West Province at the Cookes Lake Resort in Mahikeng tomorrow.

The objectives of the road-show to be facilitated by Centre for Public Service Innovation are to:

  • Enable public servants and their strategic partners from a range of sectors to collaboratively interrogate service delivery approaches, strategies and solutions
  • Empower public servants and the strategic partners to embrace innovation as a vehicle for achieving government ‘s service delivery priorities
  • Demonstrate the role and centrality of innovation as a tool for responding to current government priorities and for anticipating citizen’s changing needs
  • Ensure understanding of the innovation awards and participation
  • Explore key elements for successfully implementing and sustaining innovative programmes which also assist to reveal the innovative way of simplifying service delivery
  • Promote sharing innovative perspectives and practices that responds to service delivery priorities

Officials responsible for communications, service delivery and projects/innovation and Batho Pele Coordinators from provincial government departments, regional offices of national departments, municipalities and state owned entities are expected to attend the session scheduled to commence at 10:00-12:00 am.

The Centre for Public Service Innovation Awards is held on an annual basis in a quest to single out and celebrate those who strive to do things differently, improve service delivery in the public sector, strengthen and create an enabling environment for improved and innovative service delivery.

“Its annual conference is hosted nationally as a platform that exposes public servants and their strategic partners to innovation opportunities and strategies through sharing of related knowledge and experience”Head of Communication in North West Provincial Government, Moses Kgwele ssaid.

Face-eater had marijuana in his system

Miami – A Miami man killed by police after he chewed off a big chunk of the face of a homeless man had marijuana in his system but no other drugs, authorities said on Wednesday.

Police had speculated that Rudy Eugene, who was found naked gnawing on his victim’s face on the off-ramp of a downtown Miami bridge, may have been under the influence of a synthetic drug known as “bath salts” at the time of the attack.

Nahayo keen on SA return

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Valery Nahayo is keen on a return to South Africa, following revelations that Belgian club KAA Gent has not provided the best environment for him. 

The Burundian international joined Gent in the PRO League from Chiefs just a year ago, but KickOff.com has been informed that he is now considering a return, as he has not settled well in Belgium.
 
There have not been any solid offers for the 28-year-old as yet, but he is open about wanting an immediate return to South Africa, where he spent seven years.

Transnet to make its own trains, locomotives

Logistics company Transnet will eventually manufacture its own trains and locomotives, CEO Brian Molefe said in Johannesburg.

“Transnet will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to be an equipment manufacturer,” he said.

“We will build our own locomotives and trains.”

He was speaking at a business breakfast hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce in South Africa.

Transnet had ordered 143 locomotives from General Electric’s local subsidiary. The first 10 of these had been wholly manufactured in the United States.

Malema regrets supporting Zuma: report

Expelled ANC Youth League president Julius Malema regrets campaigning for President Jacob Zuma’s election, according to a report on Thursday.

 

 

“My only regret was to campaign for Zuma, and I apologise dearly,” Malema told The Star newspaper.

He also rejected Zuma’s idea of a “second transition”, which several media reported had also been rejected by the African National Congress policy conference underway in Midrand.

Durban Ladies down Bloemfontein Celtics to keep on the winning trail in Durban

Durban Ladies kept up their winning ways in outplaying Bloemfontein Celtics by six goals to nil (6-0) in a thrilling encounter which saw two of the Free State side’s players sent off at the Sasol League National Championships in Umlazi, near Durban on Wednesday, 27 June 2012.

Precious Ngubane gave the KwaZulu Natal side the lead in the 5th minute before Bloemfontein Celtics skipper Mokete Motsamai was red-carded for a rough tackle just 10 minutes into the match.

After half an hour of play in the second half, Mpho Leeuw was given her marching orders for an alleged illegal tackle on a Durban Ladies player – and it all went pear-shaped for the nine-player Bloemfontein team.

Ngubane doubled her team’s score in the 78th minute before the floodgates opened.

Millicent Shazi – who was named as the Sasol Diski Queen – scored Durban Ladies’ third goal, while Sithembile Mthembu increased the advantage to four nil. Others to get on the score-sheet for the hosts were Phindile Mgudu and Makhosazane Zungu.

In the other Pool A action, Mpumalanga’s Msiphuya Ladies bounced back on to the victory trail with a resounding 13-0 thrashing of Northern Cape side RC Mills.

In the day’s later matches, defending champions Palace Super Falcons received one of their toughest challenges in recent times when they were made to sweat before beating Cape Town Roses by two goals to one (2-1). The Gauteng side used the wind to their advantage in the first half and led 1-0 at the break through a strike by former national team player Chantel Esau.

The Capetonians equalised three minutes after the break through Vuyiswa Mdwekesha before Zandile Mxasa scored the winning goal for the national champions in the 80th minute.

Limpopo representatives Kanatla Ladies got their first win of the tournament, beating Eastern Cape side City Lads by two goals to one (2-1).

Twenty five (25) goals were scored on Day Three.

Bucs beef up technical team

Orlando Pirates coach Augusto Palacios has appointed his protégé Simphiwe Ngwenya as his second assistant coach. 

Ngwenya joins Bucs’ first team from the development ranks, where he has been groomed by Palacios for the past 12 years.

Pirates’ first assistant coach Teboho Moloi also worked with Ngwenya in the development team.

According to Palacios, Ngwenya, who is 45, understands what Pirates is all about and the coach is confident he is ready for the challenge.
