The minister of Human Settlement, Tokyo Sexwale told the leaders to change the way of doing things or else risk to be removed.

Sexwale also down-played the rumours that he will also challenge president Jacob Zuma, for the presidential seat in ANC conference that will be held in December in Mangaung.

The Time newspaper quoted Sexwale that it is not by choice if they remove leaders. it is because young people lost hope on them.

“Young people say: ‘If you don’t change, we will ask for your removal at the next conference. And the conferences are always in December, just like Mangaung,” Sexwale said in Alexandra in Johannesburg on Sunday.

The Times newspaper quoted him as saying: “At these conferences, we change leaders, not because we want to change leaders but because the struggle is about moving forward.”

Sexwale said this during a remembrance of the ANC former president, Xuma.

The elective president will take place during December in Mangaung and even Sexwale down-played the rumours that he is challenging Jacob Zuma according to reports, ANC is divided in this burning issue.

Gauteng dethrone USSA in the SAB U21 Championship final

Gauteng claimed the 2012 edition of the SAB Under-21 Regional Championships at the KaNyamazane Stadium near Nelspruit, Mpumalanga on Sunday, 17 June 2012.

They defeated Universities Sports of South Africa (USSA) 3-2 on penalties after both sides were deadlocked at one-all at the end of regulation time.

The tactical USSA side was beaten by a Gauteng team that defied odds to reach the final after starting the tournament on a wrong footing with a 4-1 drubbing at the hands of the USSA.

This was sweet revenge for Gauteng who also lost last year’s final to USSA in Johannesburg.

Thapelo Morena put Gauteng ahead five minutes into the match, taking advantage of an unsettled USSA defence. The University side regrouped and put on a better display, the one that had them heavily tipped to win the tournament.

Their efforts were rewarded when Ruben de Freitas equalised in the 77th minute which was enough to push the match to penalties. Tournament top scorer Philimon Lehodi, Peter Mapheto and Zwivhuya Matombo converted for Gauteng, while Kgosietsile Ndlovu and de Freitas netted for USSA.

The result saw Gauteng claim the trophy along with a cool twenty-thousand-rand (R20-000) cheque.
In the earlier match, hosts Mpumalanga washed away the disappointment of failing to reach the finals of the tournament on home soil by grabbing bronze. They defeated KwaZulu Natal by two goals to one (2-1) in the third place play-off at the same venue.

Simphiwe Mtsweni ensured Mpumalanga draw first blood over KZN when he netted in the 38th minute. In the second-half on the 56th minute Sbusiso Mahamba made it two, which could have been number three had Siphesihle Lukhele converted from the penalty spot.

KZN’s talisman Nduduzo Sibiya reduced the deficit from the penalty spot in the 63rd minute.
The goal brought some spark to their attack that looked to have been fading but it was all too late as the side finished fourth.

Gauteng booked their place in the final with a victory over Mpumalanga on Friday, while USSA saw off the challenge of KZN to reach the last four.

“This was a great day for football and a chance to give this youngster a platform to perform on. I am just hoping that these boys can remain in the system so that tomorrow we call upon them in the national teams for the good of the nation. This is a good start,” said SAFA President Kirsten President.

Three children aged 3, 6 and 9 years died on fire this morning 17June 2012 at about 07:10 at Christ Hani informal settlement near Wolmaransstad.

It is alleged that the mother of the two girls who are 3 and 6 years, left them with a nine-year-old kid who was visiting the family, a neighbours daughter.

She is reported to have gone out to fetch water and the paraffin stove was on at the time. It is suspected the stove is the cause of the fire.

“According to the information received the mother locked the door when she left to fetch water, it was the neighbours that saw the shack burning and went to try and save the little children who were locked inside, but all attempts failed” Brigadier Ngubane said.

The three children burnt beyond recognition.

Police were called to the scene and a case of arson was registered with the Wolmaransstad Police Station.

The 41-year-old mother arrived later and found the three children were already dead.  The mother was taken to hospital for shock, she was later taken to the police station for questioning.

 Police investigation continues.

Banyana Banyana celebrate Youth Day by qualifying for the 2012 African Women’s Championship

The Senior Women’s National Team (Banyana Banyana) celebrated Youth Day in style by qualifying for the 2012 African Women Championship which will be held in Equatorial Guinea in November this year.
The Sasol-sponsored Banyana Banyana scored a thrilling 2-1 victory (6-2 on aggregate) over Zambia in the second leg qualifier played at the Kanyamazane Stadium near Nelspruit, Mpumalanga on Saturday, 16 June 2012.

The victory concluded a superb weekend for South African national teams after the Springboks defeated England 36-27 at the Ellis Park on Saturday afternoon, while Bafana Bafana beat Gabon by three goals to nil (3-0) in a friendly international match on Friday evening (15 June) at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit.

Banyana Banyana won the first leg fixture 4-1 in Lusaka two weeks ago.

At the Kanyamazane Stadium, Portia Modise continued her prolific goal-scoring form by netting her 70th goal in her 91st appearance for the national team. The goal came in the 18th minute.

The Palace Super Falcons (Sasol League Gauteng) striker scored from an unchallenged position after receiving a cross from the left from Leandra Smeda. The Zambia defence failed to mark Modise, clearly waiting for the match official’s whistle for an off-side ruling on Modise, but the goal stood.

The Zambians struck back almost immediately through a goal from Mwila Bowa in the 20th minute after the South African defence failed to clear their lines.

With both sides creating a series of scoring opportunities, fans were treated to an action-packed encounter, and it was Modise who restored South Africa’s lead with a powerfully-struck left-footed effort two minutes into the second half.

Despite holding a clear four goal advantage based on match aggregate, Banyana Banyana head coach Joseph Mkhonza kept up the attack, reinforcing the strikeforce with Noko Matlou taking over from Sanah Mollo 15 minutes into the second half, and teenage winger Jermaine Seoposenwe replacing Russian-based Nompumelelo Nyandeni a few minutes earlier.

Nyandeni’s attacks down the right flank had been a thorn in the Zambian flesh all afternoon creating much pressure on the visitors’ midfield and fullback.

Kovsies FC (Sasol League Free State) midfielder Gabisile Hlumbane got a run for the final 10 minutes of the match on the left wing at the expense of Smeda and showed a few classy touches.

“It’s a good feeling having qualified for this tournament. I am happy with the effort of the team and the different combinations we tried. It’s also good to see that all the players we fielded today put up a good fight. As I’ve always said, it’s not always good to rely on certain players but to also give others an equal opportunity to play. Now we need to focus on building certain areas like goal scoring. We missed plenty of opportunities but then again scoring goals is a process and we hope by the time we get to the Olympics we’ll be ready,” said Banyana Banyana head coach Joseph Mkhonza.

“This was our last game at home now we need to focus on the mission ahead and prepare ourselves for London. Today’s game was not as high profile as playing against the likes of Scotland or even Nigeria, so we need to focus on getting out heads into the game as the upcoming matches will require a lot more hard work and team effort.”

The South Africans will continue with their Olympic preparations when they take on Nigeria in an international friendly fixture in Lagos next Saturday, 23 June.
Modise has now scored five goals in four matches, and she was named Diski queen of the match.

“We managed to play well but there is still room for improvement. It’s good that we are playing as a unit and I am happy with the performance. I would like to thank my teammates for enabling us strikers to score, and I am also delighted that my return to the national team is benefitting Banyana Banyana because this is not about me but the whole team,” said Modise.

WIFE KILL HUSBAND AND DAUGHTER AND BURIED THEM IN HOUSE

BY Obakeng Maje

The family of a missing man who was missing from 2011 – 12 – 05 came to know what had happened to their missing brother after demanding answers from the missing man’s wife on his whereabouts.

This happens after in 2009 the daughter was also reported missing and the wife who was also a mother to the missing girl never reported the matter to the Police.

The disappearance of people in the house has led to the family to demand answers from the wife.

After persisting questions from the family members, the wife gave in and promised to lead the family to where the father and daughter were buried.

“The family called for the Police to accompany them to the pointing out. The wife pointed out the scene which was found to be inside their extended RDP house which has a shack backroom. Under the bed in the shack, this where the daughter was missing in 2009 was found as a skeleton” Brigadier Ngubane said.

The fathers body was also in the same hole but the body was highly decomposed.

According to the mother they both died and she decided to bury them in the house because she did not have the money to afford the burial of the two.

The skeleton and the decomposed body of the man were found deep in that house.

The daughter when she went  missing in 2009 she was 17 years and the father when he also went missing in 2011 he was 60 years of age.

The mother who is 67 years of age and her other 16 year old daughter were arrested.

The daughter was taken in for being an accomplice in the murder of the two. They were both charged with murder on two counts.

They are both expected to appear in Lichtenburg Magistrate court on 18 – 06 – 2012.

A case of murder has been opened.

Banyana Banyana look to outplay Zambia in the AWC qualifiers

The South African Senior Women’s National Team (Banyana Banyana) will be looking to book their place in the next round of the African Women’s Championship (AWC) when they face Zambia in the second leg qualifier at the KaNyamazane Stadium in Nelspruit.

The match will take place on Saturday, 16 June 2012.

Kickoff is at 15h00.

The 8th Edition of the AWC is scheduled to be staged in Guinea later this year.

Banyana Banyana has strong ammunition for She-polopolo who lost the first leg by four goals to one (4-1) played two weeks ago in Zambia. With Russia-based striker Nompumelelo Nyandeni back in the squad, the Sasol-sponsored Banyana Banyana will be looking to increasing their lead. Nyandeni was unable to join her compatriots for the away fixture in Zambia due to visa issues.

The clash against Zambia takes place on Youth Day, which is a national holiday in South Africa.

“This will be a very significant match as it will be played on Youth Day and we are hoping to spread the message of unity and breaking barriers through sport in South Africa. It’s a great honour for us as young football ambassadors playing on June 1,” said Banyana Banyana captain Amanda Dlamini.

“We are going out there as the youth of South Africa to commemorate the fallen heroes who paved the way for us and created opportunities for us. While we want to qualify for the AWC, we also want to use this game to promote positive change and youth activity.”

According to the head coach of Banyana Banyana, Joseph Mkhonza, the first leg is now history and the focus is on a new match altogether.

“We should not dwell on the past result but should go into this game as if we are starting afresh. We need to go in there with a new mindset to ensure we don’t fall into the trap of complacency which might come back to haunt us. I told the players the advantage we have over Zambia should be forgotten,” said Mkhonza.

“We welcome back Mpumi (Nompumelelo Nyandeni) in the squad, we know that her experience will be valuable towards the team’s success. Her return is a great morale booster for the squad as we want to ensure that we qualify for the AWC as well as helping us on our journey towards the Olympics.

“I believe in giving all players an opportunity to represent their country, so I am going to rest some of the regular players and field those who haven’t had game time as we try new combinations. I won’t temper too much with the team because the mission remains winning our match,” added Mkhonza.

The AWC qualifier will be broadcast live on SABC 1 at 15h00.

SAFA salutes June 16 brave warriors

The South African Football Association (SAFA) would like to join the rest of South Africa in lauding the brave young men and women who marched to protest against the Bantu Education Act on this historic day in 1976.

“They fought against inequality and oppressive rules and today the rest of South Africa is enjoying the fruits of what they stood for,” said SAFA President Kirsten Nematandani.

South Africa has played in three World Cup tournaments and has hosted what FIFA has ranked as the best World Cup event ever in 2010. The country has also hosted other successful sporting events, thanks to what the protesters stood for, added Nematandani.

“Since our re-admission to the FIFA family, this country has taken its rightful place on the global sporting universe and I, on behalf of SAFA, would like to laud the youths for literally putting their bodies on the line for the freedom of this country,” he said.

The students were mainly protesting against the inferior Bantu Education because they wanted a better future for all.

“Therefore, the youths of today should appreciate what their predecessors fought for. Education is power, the youths of today must know that there is nothing that is more paramount than education. So even when you take sport as your preferred professional career, it is important to put education ahead of everything,” said the SAFA President.

On 16 June 1976, Soweto youths took to the street to protest for better education and the police responded with teargas and live ammunition.

“We must cherish what these brave warriors fought for but also be mindful that what they stood for doesn’t go to waste.”
