Popular SABC2 soapie 7de Laan contravened the Broadcasting Code of Conduct when it portrayed a disturbing suicide attempt.

So says the Broadcasting Complaints Commission of South Africa (BCCSA), who ruled that “the threatening actions of the character were indeed too repetitive and graphic for the timeslot”.

The decision to select the next Bafana Bafana coach is not as black and white an issue as it may seem. It it has many shades of grey.

Granted, the two men who came out tops from the interviews conducted by the technical committee of the South African Football Association after presentations made by the initial five candidates are… well, black and white – Steve Komphela and Gordon Igesund.

The Limpopo Social Development Department plans to relocate five-year-old rape victim *Dikeledi from her village for safety reasons.

 

The Grade R pupil at Mmamatsha village at Ga-Molepo village, outside Polokwane, has allegedly been raped by three different men since she was three years old.

‘Moyo did not escape, he walked out’

It was necessary for serial escape accused Bongani Moyo to “walk out” of the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court in August as his life had been threatened by a police officer, the court heard on Tuesday.

Submitting closing arguments, advocate Donald Somo, for Moyo, said his client had not “escaped”, but had “walked out”, allegedly on crutches, on the instructions of the policeman.

Sweswe, Amidu to sign for Leopards

Kaizer Chiefs duo Thomas Sweswe and Brian Amidu are set to join Black Leopards. 

Sweswe has apparently been deemed surplus requirements following the arrival of Morgan Gould, while Amidu is available on a loan.

The deal should be wrapped up any day now.

New Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Siyabonga Nkosi feels he has ‘unfinished business’ at the club. 

As KickOff.com exclusively revealed over a week ago, Nkosi is back for his second spell in Naturena, after spending just a season (2006/07) at Chiefs before moving to German side Arminia Bielefeld in 2007.

The 30-year-old says as soon as he heard of Chiefs’ interest he turned a blind eye to the other clubs’ interest.

“My contract with Golden Arrows was coming to an end in June, so my representative Josiah Mpono told me that there were a few clubs that had shown interest on my services.

Heroes rescue woman at Howick Falls

A young woman was pulled from the middle of Howick Falls in a dramatic rescue on Monday afternoon that left even emergency workers feeling shaken several hours later.

It is not clear whether 27-year-old Zama Vilakazi, from KwaShifu near Mpophomeni, had attempted to jump off the edge of the 95m-high waterfall, or had slipped.

However, Howick police said afterwards that Vilakazi had been “standing on the falls and attempted to throw herself over. It was a suicide intention”.

Drivers might have to Rica licences

Drivers may soon have to show proof of residence to keep their licences valid, similar to the Rica system currently in place for cellphones and bank accounts, according to a report on Tuesday.

This is one of the proposed amendments to the National Road Traffic Law announced in the Government Gazette last week, Beeld reported.
