Motor Vehicle Remote Jamming!!!

BY Obakeng Maje

There have been alarming reports of vehicle owners who, under the impression of having locked their vehicle with the remote control device, returned and found that goods had been stolen without any sign of forced entry, proving that the vehicle had indeed not been locked. It has now been established that thieves can indeed block, or jam, the locking signals of remote locking devices on vehicles.

How is this possible?
Most modern remote controls use rolling-code technology, which means that the code command cannot be copied or cloned. The remote jamming that vehicle owners fall victim to is not the result of cloning or copying of the remote control. Most modern remote controls work with radio waves that use an allocated radio frequency. The use of this specific radio frequency is prescribed by the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA), the regulatory body for the South African communications, broadcasting and postal services sector. Most remote controls, including those for motor vehicles, gate and garage automation; operate on a frequency of 433MHz as issued by ICASA for this purpose. Remote controls operating on the same frequency can influence each other’s messages if they are operated in close proximity, in other words, within each other’s power range. However, to make matters worse, there are “professional” jamming devices available that function on a range of frequencies and that have much higher signal power. These devices can influence a vehicle’s remote control from a much greater distance and can even interfere with remote controls that use different frequencies and technologies. It should be pointed out that these remote control and jamming devices cannot unlock your vehicle. They can only stop your remote control from working properly.

Does insurance cover these losses?
Depending on your insurance policy, claims for items stolen without any sign of forced entry into a vehicle will in most cases be rejected. It will definitely be rejected if the cover stipulates forced entry into the vehicle as a condition for a claim to be paid out.

What is the solution?
The manufacturers of motor vehicles are constantly trying to improve the security of vehicles. ICASA and other radio frequency controlling bodies worldwide have allocated another frequency band to be used for motor vehicles. Although this will effectively stop the blocking of the signal with a garage or gate remote control device, it will not stop blocking the signal when a similar remote control device is used in close proximity or when a jamming device is used. The following steps to help prevent jamming of remote controls are recommended:

• The most important rule: Make sure your car is locked before you walk away. Manually check or test the doors and the boot.
• Always be aware of your surroundings and keep a sharp lookout for suspicious-looking people and activities.
• Report suspicious-looking people to security or move your car to a safer place.
• Never leave valuables in your car.

All vehicle owners must be aware that the remote control of their motor vehicles can be blocked. They should never assume that the vehicle is locked merely because the button had been pressed. It is important to make sure that the vehicle is indeed locked before leaving

13 people arrested for Public Violence in Ledig, Sun City

BY Obakeng Maje

The Police of Sun City arrested 13 people for Public Violence.

“This morning at about 11:00, about 250 people started to barricade the road, throwing stones and burning tyres at the four-way stop at Ledig” Brigadier Ngubane said.

This followed after the protestors handed over a memorandum last week to the new platinum mine, Wesizwe and didn’t receive any feedback on their demands.

In the memorandum they stated that they want  the local people of Ledig to be hired by the mine.  One vehicle has been damaged and a member of the public has been assaulted.

Currently the situation is calm but is being monitored by the police. The 13 suspects areexpected to appear shortly in court.

The South African Senior Women’s National Team (Banyana Banyana) is continuing with preparations in Nelspruit ahead of the return leg of their international friendly match against Nigeria.

The clash will take place at the Teslim–Balogun Stadium in Lagos on Saturday, 23 June 2012.

Kickoff is at 16h00.

The Sasol-sponsored Banyana Banyana played to a one-all draw against the West Africans in the home leg two weeks ago (3 June) at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace in Phokeng near Rustenburg.

With the Olympic Games less than 40 days away, Banyana Banyana head coach Joseph Mkhonza is aware that time is ticking and preparations have to be taken seriously.

The team has been working on video analysis of the previous encounter against Nigeria as well the home and away encounters against Zambia in the African Women’s Championship qualifiers, which South Africa has now qualified for.

“We are nearing this big tournament (Olympics) and with the technical assistance we receive we are trying as hard as we can to build on the success of qualifying for the African Women’s Championship. After looking at the previous four matches we’ve played in preparation for the AWC qualifiers, looking at the past match against Zambia, we need to up the tempo in our style of play as we’ll be put the test against experienced countries in the Olympics,” said Mkhonza.

“But our focus is now on Nigeria where we need to get a good result despite them having the advantage of playing at home. In London we will be away from home, and getting used to such conditions will help us a great deal. Also we have to organise ourselves well when we lose the ball.”

Banyana Banyana will fly out of Nigeria immediately after the match. They will arrive in South Africa on Sunday (24 June) morning (05h05).

SA Futsal National team prepare for final leg of the FIFA WC qualifiers

The South African Futsal National team which assembled on Sunday 17 June has vowed to overturn a 4-0 first leg World Cup qualifier defeat by Libya in Tunisia when the two meet again in the second leg scheduled for Orlando Community Hall Indoor Arena in Soweto on Saturday 23 June 2012.

Kickoff is at 15h00.

The South Africans admit they played second fiddle to their fast-paced North African opponents in the first leg a fortnight ago.

Futsal National head coach Quinton Allies is well aware his charges need to redouble their efforts if they are to overturn the massive deficit from the first leg.

“I am still confident that we can overcome the Libyans before our own supporters. The boys are still determined to qualify for the FIFA Futsal World Cup set to take place in Thailand from 1-18 November later this year,” he said.

“We need to exert pressure from the word go but tighten our defence in the process. Going for an all-out attack has its own shortcomings, they might catch us on a counter-attack and deliver the proverbial sucker punch. We need to be aware of this,” said Allies.

Futsal committee deputy chair, Poobalan Govindasamy is also convinced that the dream of reaching the World Cup in Thailand is not over yet.

“Yes, we have a mountain to climb but in this game of soccer never say never. I also want to ask the public from in and around Soweto to come in their hundreds and give the boys all the support.

“Who knows with all that encouragement what might happen. It is a tall order, yes but 4-0 scorelines have been overturned before and we hope our boys will rewrite the history books,” added Govindasamy.

Entry to the match venue is free of charge.

JOHANNESBURG – 2012 Comrades winner Ludwick Mamabolo has tested positive for a banned stimulant, the South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport confirmed on Tuesday.

The 35-year-old athlete was the first South African to win the prestigious race in seven years.

The institute’s Khalid Galant said, “The stimulant is used to enhance your awareness and alertness.

“In an endurance race like the Comrades, it will work to your advantage because it can mask your fatigue levels.”

Galant said if the findings are confirmed, Mamabolo could face a two-year ban and be stripped of his title.

Mamabolo is yet to respond.

A leading teachers’ union accused the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal on Tuesday of adopting DA policies.

“The call by KwaZulu-Natal secretary Sihle Zikalala to make education an essential service is yet another point that puts the provincial ruling party as the mouthpiece of the DA,” SA Democratic Teachers’ Union provincial secretary Mbuyiseni Mathonsi said in a statement.

Prison escapee found guilty, three years added to sentence

The Pretoria Magistrate’s Court found criminal Bongani Moyo guilty on Tuesday of escaping from custody and sentenced him to another three years in prison.

Magistrate Len Miller said escaping from lawful custody was a serious crime for which the court had to impose a term of imprisonment.

The court had also taken into account that Moyo was appearing on charges of serious offences the day he escaped.

Moyo got up and left the court building in August after being made to sit on a bench outside the courtroom where he was appearing. He was apparently on crutches at the time.

Bafana Bafana midfielder Andile Jali is set to leave Orlando Pirates, with clubs in England weighing up bids for the 22-year-old.

Jali was linked with a move to an unnamed Bundesliga club last week but KickOff.com can reveal that the Premier League now looks his more likely destination.

Agent Paschalis Tountouris of Prosport International admits that there is real interest in signing the former AmaTuks player and believes Jali has played his last game for The Buccaneers after helping them win two successive PSL Trebles.

“I think he will be leaving,” Tountouris tells KickOff.com. “There is interest from England but we have to be very careful which kind of club he chooses.
