Yende’s future at Chiefs uncertain

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Mthokozisi Yende’s future at Naturena remains uncertain after the arrival of Siyabonga Nkosi.  

Yende has failed to make a great impact since he joined Amakhosi from University of Pretoria a few years ago and, with Nkosi set to be handed the number 10 jersey at Chiefs, the 28-year-old seems to have little chance of making the starting line-up.

The Phefeni Glamour Boys have already released Thela Ngobeni, Dominic Mateba, Abel Metsimetsi, Steven Ncanana and Dominic Isaacs, and Yende’s name was initially on the list of players to be let go.

The son of a murdered farmer has challenged ANC Youth League statements that land should be taken without compensation, according to a report on Friday.

Hanno van Rensburg, son of the murdered farmer, Johan van Rensburg, 77, blamed the ANC Youth League for the crime in which his mother Gloudien, 65, was also critically wounded, reported Beeld newspaper.

SUCCESSES IN ZEERUST DURING OPERATION

Zeerust Police in conjunction with the Provincial and Local Traffic Department  held a crime prevention operation from 15 till 17 June 2012 in Zeerust.

 

During the operation there was a high police visibility on foot patrols and stop-and-search operations. Six (6) people were arrested for possession of dagga and were charged R200-00 each.

 

Liquor outlets were also visited during the operation. Six (6) suspects were arrested during the early morning hours of 17 June 2012 for driving under the influence of alcohol, blood samples were taken.

“During the operation twenty-eight (28) suspects were issued with R200-00 fines each for crimes such as drinking alcohol in public, illegal gambling, urinating in public and failing to comply with the National Road Traffic Act” Brigadier Thulani Ngubane said.

 

SAFA/KNBV coaching course for women

The Dutch Football Federation (KNBV), in conjunction with the South African Football Association (SAFA), is busy with the third coaching course for women who aspire to be coaches. The course has been taking place since the 18th  and will end on the 22nd of June in Grahamstown, Eastern Cape. 
 
Twenty-four (24) coaches from all the eight regions of the Eastern Cape Province had been invited, but due to the high demand, thirty-two (32) were accepted. The project will eventually cater for 300 women interested in football coaching throughout South Africa.
 
“We again thank the KNVB for affording potential women coaches this fantastic opportunity” said Fran Hilton-Smith, SAFA Technical Director of Women’s Football.
 
“It will go a long way in assisting us in developing more women coaches for the leagues as well as all the National teams”.
 
Hilton-Smith is an assessor for the course and will assist in identifying coaches for further training within the SAFA coaching framework.
 
KNVB Instructor present for the course, Eric Whittie, is on his 6th course in South Africa.
 
“I have enjoyed all my experiences in South Africa as the diversity of the groups was fun and as  an instructor you have to adapt every time which is also good for my own development and growth. The way colleagues from football development projects in SA like” Stars in their eyes,” specifically Desiree Ellis, Sharon Lombard (both former Banyana players),  Elton Hart, Rohan Bergstedt and Granwil Pienaar help me in projects here is admirable,” said Whittie.

Vodacom and SAFA Launch 2011/12 Vodacom League National Playoffs

The excitement was palpable inside SAFA House as officials, club representatives and media convened to witness the draw for the 2012 Vodacom League Play-Offs, which takes place in Polokwane from 2-8 July 2012.

The tournament, featuring the winners of each of the nine provincial divisions, will be divided into two groups: The four-team Coastal Stream consist of Western Cape (Milano United), Eastern Cape (Tornado FC), Northern Cape (Morester Jeug) and Kwazulu-Natal (Maritzburg City FC).

 The five-team Inland Stream consists of Gauteng (The Vardos FC), North West (Soshanguve Sunshine), Free State (Maluti FET College FC/Roses United FC), Mpumalanga (Batau FC) and Limpopo (Baroka FC).

The teams in each group will play each other in a round robin format, scoring three points for a win, one for a draw and none for a defeat. The winners of each group will secure automatic promotion to the National First Division before facing each other in a ‘final’ to determine the champions of the 2012 Vodacom League.

Matches are scheduled to take place at the Peter Mokaba Sports Complex and at the Seshego Stadium.

“The Vodacom League fulfils an integral role in the development process of football in South Africa. It lays a strong foundation for young players to gain guaranteed experience at senior level alongside more seasoned campaigners,” said SAFA president Kirsten Nematandani.

The Vodacom League contains a special regulation that requires each team to field a minimum of five players under the age of 23 at any time during a match.

Vodacom’s marketing executive manager, Enzo Scarcella said “The experience accumulated from exposure to the Vodacom League has proved invaluable, as can most recently be evidenced by 2011 champions, Chippa United, who are knocking on the door to the PSL after only one season in the National First Division (NFD).”

“The regular attendance of a vast array of scouts from top clubs clearly indicates the important role this league plays in the development process. Indeed, a significant number of the PSL’s greatest stars paid their dues in the Vodacom League, with some even graduating to perform on the international stage,” said Scarcella.

Vodacom will be staging a series of Road Shows in the lead-up to the play-offs, kicking off on Thursday 28 June at Lebowakgomo Unit F Plaza , where fans can gather between 11h00 and 17h00 to be entertained by DJs and MCs, as well as stand the chance of winning fabulous prizes.

In addition, a selection of Vodacom products and services will be on promotion to members of the public. A robbery suspect reminded in custody!!!

Zeerust–  Kabelo Molobelwa(27) was arrested on 30 May 2012 for housebreaking an theft in Zeerust. 

The suspect gained entry through the window after removing the iron burglar. 

He took a box safe containing two Riffles, two Pullet Guns, a wheelbarrow, two DVD players and the garage door keys.

“The Police followed the wheelbarrow-prints from the scene, which led them to a house in Ikageleng, Zeerust where the suspect was found in possession of the suspected stolen riffles” Brigadier Thulani Ngubane said.

He appeared before Zeerust Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 1 June 2012, he was denied bail and the case was postponed until 18 June 2012.

He appeared again yesterday, 20 June 2012 an the case was postponed to 27 June 2012 for further investigation.

Delareyville (Sannieshof) – On Monday, 18 June 2012 at about 19:30 four suspects whose age ranged from 27, 32, 27 & 33 were arrested for possession of Unlicensed Firearm and Ammunition.  This happened at the T-junction of Sannieshof/Delareyville, where the police spotted a suspicious vehicle.

 The police stopped the vehicle, search it and interviewed the suspects. A 9 mm pistol, 9x 9mm ammunition, a music system, vehicle tyres and caps, tools, cell phones, liquor, groceries as well as cash were seized.

“The Red Ford Meteor they were travelling in was also confiscated. Allegedly the fifth suspect, a woman is not a suspect but the girlfriend of the shop owner where the confiscated goods were allegedly robbed” Brigadier Thulani Ngubane said.

The four suspects is suspected to appear shortly in court and investigation continues.

A 23 year-old suspect arrested after a rape!

Mmabatho (Seweding Village) – On Wednesday, 20 June 2012 at about 00:45, the 37-year old victim and her 10-year old daughter were asleep in the house, her son was sleeping in a other room.

It is alleged that she heard someone entering her bedroom, she allegedly  turned on the lights and saw the suspect.

“He asked where her husband was and switched off the light proceeded raping her. Allegedly the son in the other room heard his mother scream and ran to the neighbours” Brigadier Ngubane said.

According to the victim the suspect fled with two phones after noticing a car lights that shone through the windows. The 23-year-old suspect was later traced and arrested.
