The ANC Youth League on Thursday demanded that Limpopo learners still waiting for textbooks be given a free pass.

“We demand that all learners be given the obligatory pass as the situation is stimulated by the government itself,” provincial spokesman Klaas Nono Mabunda said in a statement.

“The lack of learner support materials particularly textbooks comes with a lot of misfortunes to learners in grade 11 and 12,” said Mabunda.

Entry to the institutions of higher learning was determined by pupils’ performance on this term in the school calendar.

Zuma’s plan thrashed

The ANC’s second transition draft policy document punted by President Jacob Zuma is receiving mixed reaction from party structures.

On Wednesday, the ANC in North West joined Gauteng and Limpopo in rejecting the document. The Eastern Cape, which is to finalise its policy positions tomorrow, is said to have also rejected the document.

Though KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga have endorsed the document, indications from ANC structures in other provinces, as well as within ANC alliance partner Cosatu, are that the policy proposal will be rejected when the ruling party holds its policy conference next week.

Doping probe is racist, says Mamabolo family

Comrades Marathon winner Ludwick Mamabolo who is being probed for possible doping, is a victim of racism, his family said, a newspaper reported on Thursday.

“He came second in his first race in 2010 and nothing was probed. Now that he had sacrificed his job and trained to win the race, there are issues. Could that not be about the fact that he is black?” Mamabolo’s father was quoted by the Sowetan.

Mamabolo won the 89km ultra-marathon between Pietermaritzburg and Durban on June 3 but has since tested positive for methylhexaneamine.
