JOHANNESBURG – 2012 Comrades winner Ludwick Mamabolo has tested positive for a banned stimulant, the South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport confirmed on Tuesday.

The 35-year-old athlete was the first South African to win the prestigious race in seven years.

The institute’s Khalid Galant said, “The stimulant is used to enhance your awareness and alertness.

“In an endurance race like the Comrades, it will work to your advantage because it can mask your fatigue levels.”

Galant said if the findings are confirmed, Mamabolo could face a two-year ban and be stripped of his title.

Mamabolo is yet to respond.

Prison escapee found guilty, three years added to sentence

The Pretoria Magistrate’s Court found criminal Bongani Moyo guilty on Tuesday of escaping from custody and sentenced him to another three years in prison.

Magistrate Len Miller said escaping from lawful custody was a serious crime for which the court had to impose a term of imprisonment.

The court had also taken into account that Moyo was appearing on charges of serious offences the day he escaped.

Moyo got up and left the court building in August after being made to sit on a bench outside the courtroom where he was appearing. He was apparently on crutches at the time.

Bafana Bafana midfielder Andile Jali is set to leave Orlando Pirates, with clubs in England weighing up bids for the 22-year-old.

Jali was linked with a move to an unnamed Bundesliga club last week but KickOff.com can reveal that the Premier League now looks his more likely destination.

Agent Paschalis Tountouris of Prosport International admits that there is real interest in signing the former AmaTuks player and believes Jali has played his last game for The Buccaneers after helping them win two successive PSL Trebles.

“I think he will be leaving,” Tountouris tells KickOff.com. “There is interest from England but we have to be very careful which kind of club he chooses.

The decision to select the next Bafana Bafana coach is not as black and white an issue as it may seem. It it has many shades of grey.

Granted, the two men who came out tops from the interviews conducted by the technical committee of the South African Football Association after presentations made by the initial five candidates are… well, black and white – Steve Komphela and Gordon Igesund.
