TWO ARRESTED FOR FARMER ROBBERY

The Madikwe police arrested two suspects aged 26 and 29 in the early hours of this morning 15 June 2012 at about  3:30  after they were alleged to have robbed a farmer in his cattle post in Moubane village in  the Northern side of Madikwe.

 

It is alleged that a 53-year-old cattle farmer was at his farm yesterday 14 June 2012 at about 11:20 when two suspects entered his farm and pointed him with a pistol. 

The farmer was threatened until he comply with the suspects’ demands.  The suspects robbed the farmer of his 4 firearms, 1X Revolver, 5 life rounds,2X hunting rifles and 1X pumper action, and an empty cartridge and immediately left the scene on foot. 

The farmer was not harmed and he went to the chief to report the matter and later called the police.

 

“The K9 ,  Madikwe detectives and Vispol  members followed the footsteps of the suspects into the village of Tlokweng hoping to find the suspects.  Unfortunately the police did not succeed in finding the culprits.   At about 19:00 the K9, Madikwe detectives and Vispol decided to call off the operation”Brigadier Ngubane said. 

A constable stationed at Madikwe felt the need to continue with the search with the help of three detectives and two Vispol constables.  During their search  in the early hours of today 15 June 2012 at about 3:30 the wanted 29-year-old suspect was caught hiking to Rustenburg and was found in possession of two firearms. 

The police immediately arrested the suspect who also alerted the police to where the second suspect (26) was. 

The police took action and arrested the suspect at his place in possession of the other two firearms.

 

Investigations continue and the two suspects are expected to appear before Madikwe Magistrate court on Monday 18 June 2012.
