Woman’s disappearance a mystery!!!

BY Bongani Hans

The disappearance of a former Durban woman remains a mystery despite the recent arrest of her ex-boyfriend.

Police spokesman Colonel Tshisikhane Ndou said a man arrested in connection with the incident, Zwelibanzi Kidwell Zungu, had not shed any light on the disappearance of 27-year-old Nandi Mbizane, who went missing from her Joburg flat in March.

Mbizane used to live in Woodhaven, Durban.

“This man is not prepared to shed light on what happened to the woman. We now hope that he will tell the court about what happened.

Ndou said Mbizane’s case had been handed to the Hawks for investigation.

Police allege that Zungu was last seen entering Mbizane’s flat immediately before she was reported missing.

Zungu was arrested last week and charged with her murder.

He appeared at Pretoria Magistrate’s Court, and his case was postponed to May 11 for bail application.

TAUNG MINING LICENCE TALKS AT ADVANCED STAGE!!!

BY Obakeng Maje

Taung is one of the richest towns concerning minerals in South Africa, and the town itself is poverty-stricken as unemployment is one of major issues faced by the community.

Despite that, the land of Batlhaping ba-ga Maidi and Phuduhutswanana is very rich regarding minerals like oil and diamond, but the stumbling block is resources per se.

The community is ruled by most powerful men by name of Tshepo Mankuroane and Nnyoko Motlhabane who are both young. There is a non-operative mine in town, just down the area near Taung Dam, between Cokonyane and Manthestadt where we saw most Mining companies flocking there to get their fair share of the minerals there. Some of those companies were operating without consent of the community and its leaders.

The latest perpetrators were Taung Giant Diamond Mining, who were allegedly operating with a fraudulent documents. The chief Nnyoko Motlhabane took the matter to court were it took almost a year before the solution can be reached, eventually The Taung Giant Mining company’s licence was suspended.

We spoke to Chief Nnyoko Motlhabane who confirmed that the talks are at advanced stage and soon things will come together. ” We can outline that we are at very high level of negotiations with the government to obtain our Mining licence. We have raw minerals and our land is very rich,so our aim is to make sure we are in fully operation as soon as we can” he said.

Last year the Chief and his crew were engaged in talks with Minister of Minerals to be granted the licence of operation and we are in position of the video captured during that meeting. Motlhabane continues”To the community of Taung, we are really working tirelessly claim back what is rightfully ours. The Taung Giant Diamond Mining company obtained their licence fraudulently and never benefited the community. We do not want people who come and put their needs first before community. We will fight for what belong to our community and make sure they benefit from it” he outlined.

He promised to call all Batlhapings for a general meeting where they will inform them about any new developments.

Tutu unfazed by petition!!!

tutu_jan 18

Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu is not bothered by a religious group that is trying to ban him from visiting a US Catholic university, he said on Wednesday.

“People should be entitled to express their opinions, and I will continue to work hard to support the right of all people around the world to express their opinions,” he said.

He described it as an honour to be invited to Gonzaga University, in Washington State, to deliver the keynote address at its 125th anniversary celebrations next Sunday.

Tutu said he had been in regular contact with university president Thayne McCulloh and was glad to see that the institution’s student magazine, “One World”, was welcoming of his visit.

The Cape Times reported on Wednesday that 784 people had signed a petition calling for the university to withdraw its invitation to Tutu because of his pro-abortion and same-sex marriage views.

The petition was sent out by the Cardinal Newman Society, which champions Catholic identity in higher education.

It reads: “Although Archbishop Tutu performed wonderful work in South Africa, his positions on pre-born life, sexuality, and his disrespect for the Jewish people should disqualify him from receiving any honours at any institution worthy of calling itself Catholic.”

However, a counter-petition by online community Faithful America had already received 12 192 signatures.

It said “religious right extremists” who had been waging a campaign of fear and intimidation on Catholic college campuses should not be allowed to silence Tutu.

On the university’s website, McCulloh described Tutu as “a living exemplar of Gonzaga’s historic commitment to the ideals of equality and a free society as a Catholic, Jesuit and humanistic university”.

He said the religious leader was among the most prominent moral icons of the time.

According to the Gonzaga Online Bulletin, Tutu was not being paid for the appearance, but his travel costs would be covered.

The university would broadcast his address on the day via live streaming video.

NFP officials die in hail of bullets!!!

NFP jan31 IOL pics

Two members of the National Freedom Party (NFP) were assassinated and another was critically wounded when gunmen opened fire on their car in Msinga, south of Dundee, in KwaZulu-Natal on Tuesday night.

Bongani Shelembe, 64, chairman of the Msinga branch of the NFP, and Lungisile Zuma, 22, secretary of the youth wing, were killed in a hail of bullets just after 5pm.

“The vehicle was ambushed while en route to Keate’s Drift,” said police spokesman Colonel Jay Naicker.

A third person, Nontethelelo Mbatha, Shelembe’s secretary, was taken to a Pietermaritzburg hospital where she was in a critical condition.

The motive for the killing was unclear but police were investigating.

Shelembe is a businessman in the Keate’s Drift area and lived in Msinga.

He was apparently on his way to check on his shops when he was ambushed.

A police source said the suspects opened fire on Shelembe’s Mercedes Benz as he travelled on the town’s main road.

When the car stopped, the suspects allegedly shot all three passengers with R-5 rifles.

Shelembe and Zuma were hit in the head and chest and Mbatha in the leg.

The source said a policeman, travelling in his private vehicle, witnessed the shooting, and was expected to give a statement on Wednesday.

It was unclear if the killings were politically motivated, the source said.

The NFP said the trio were returning from a party meeting in Msinga when they were attacked.

“We are deeply saddened by the events and would like to send our sincere condolences to the families of the deceased,” Zanele Magwaza-Msibi, president of the NFP, said on Wednesday.

“We do not expect such things to be happening in a democracy. People have a right to belong to whatever party they choose. There is no reason to kill anybody,” she said.

Magwaza-Msibi said Shelembe was hugely popular in the Msinga district and had played an important role in growing the party in that region.

“He was a very hard worker who went out of his way to help people. I was shocked when I was told about his death and feel very sad that he had to die this way,” she said.

Magwaza-Msibi said she did not want to speculate about the motive for the killing but urged police to bring the culprits to book.

“Nothing is going to stop the party from growing. We will continue to grow as we have passionate and hard working people on the ground,” she said.

Maliyakhe Shelembe, national chairperson of the NFP, called for calm urging supporters not to seek revenge but assist the police.

“Let the police do their job.

“Anybody with information should go to the police,” he said. – Daily News

ANCYL shocked by website tampering!!!!

The ANC Youth League on Wednesday said it was shocked that its website had been tampered with.

“Such tampering is condemned and we hope that there will be no future repetition of such interference,” the ANCYL said in a statement.

“We do expect that such wrong-doings will never be repeated by those who advance a malicious agenda.”

The names of expelled ANCYL president Julius Malema and suspended secretary general Sindiso Magaqa were removed from the website, leaving blank spaces next to those positions on the http://www.ancyl.org.za page listing its national executive committee.

Their names had been restored to the page by Wednesday afternoon.

The ANCYL said the information on the website belonged to the youth league and “not individuals who believe otherwise” and that it had restored the names.

Suspended youth league spokesman Floyd Shivambu’s name also remained on the list of NEC members.

Although Malema was expelled from the ANC last week following an announcement by the party’s national disciplinary committee of appeal, the ANCYL has said he will remain president until its next election in 2014.

He was found guilty of sowing division in the party and of bringing it into disrepute for unfavourably comparing the leadership style of President Jacob Zuma to that of former president Thabo Mbeki, and for remarks on bringing about regime change in Botswana.

Magaqa was suspended for a year for making derogatory remarks about Public Enterprises Minister Malusi Gigaba. He has since apologised.

Shivambu’s ANC membership was suspended for three years for swearing at a journalist and for issuing a statement calling for a change of government in Botswana.

Petros too busy for Mdluli plot!!!

Gauteng police commissioner Mzwandile Petros said he had his hands too full to be part of a conspiracy to oust crime intelligence head Richard Mdluli.

“There is too much crime in Gauteng. When you get involved in a conspiracy, you need time… I have my hands full,” Lieutenant-General Petros told the National Press Club in Pretoria on Wednesday.

“I will leave it at that.”

Neither would he comment on Mdluli’s reinstatement, saying he could not express his own opinions while “in uniform”.

Mdluli had reportedly claimed he was the victim of a conspiracy to have him removed from office.

According to website IOL, in a letter Mdluli wrote to President Jacob Zuma, Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa and acting national police commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, he claimed he was the victim of conspiracies by police top brass who wanted him out because he was seen to be a “Zuma man”.

He reportedly named suspended national police commissioner Bheki Cele, Petros, head of crime detection Lieutenant-General Godfrey Lebeya and Hawks head Lieutenant-General Anwa Dramat as the officers who had conspired to have him removed.

According to reports by City Press, accusations against Mdluli include defrauding crime intelligence to buy two new BMWs for himself and his wife, appointing several family members as secret agents, and the unauthorised use of safe houses for his personal benefit.

Public Protector Thuli Madonsela last week declined probing allegations of abuse of state funds against Mdluli, saying the Inspector General of Intelligence was looking into the matter.

Mdluli had faced fraud and corruption charges, as well as murder charges. The criminal charges relating to his ex-girlfriend’s boyfriend Oupa Ramogibe’s 1999 murder were recently withdrawn against Mdluli, court orderly Samuel Dlomo, Colonel Nkosana Sebastian Ximba, and Lieutenant-Colonel Mtunzi-Omhle Mthembeni Mtunzi. He faces an inquest for that now.

The fraud and corruption charges, which City Press reported were related to improper use of crime intelligence money, were also dropped.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA)’s Glynnis Breytenbach, who was working on the Mdluli case, has been suspended. She was regional head of the NPA in Gauteng’s specialised commercial crime unit.

The NPA however said there was no link between her suspension and the Mdluli matter.

Outcry over Tutu visit to US university!!!

Cape Town – A religious group is demanding that Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu be banned from visiting a United States Catholic university because of his pro-abortion and same-sex marriage views, the Cape Times reported on Wednesday.

At least 7 723 people had signed a petitioncalling for Gonzaga University in Washington State to withdraw its invitation to Tutu, while another online petition sent out by the Cardinal Newman Society, which champions Catholic identity in higher education, had attracted over 800 signatures.

Tutu had accepted a request to deliver a keynote address at the university’s 125th anniversary celebrations. He would also be given an honorary Doctor of Laws degree.

The petition reads: “Although Archbishop Tutu performed wonderful work in South Africa, his positions on pre-born life, sexuality, and his disrespect for the Jewish people, should disqualify him from receiving any honours at any institution worthy of calling itself Catholic”.

A counter-petition by online community Faithful America had, however, already received 12 192 signatures.
