Difficult dating for guys: the SMS

The days of poetic love letters are long gone, and these days, love-struck singles must compose witty, engaging missives short enough to translate over SMSes.

But according to one men’s interest website, for single males, writing the perfect SMS to a woman can be a puzzling and infuriating task.

In a recent survey, a majority of participants agreed it created more of an issue than approaching a woman in the first place and even knowing what to say after that awkward first kiss.

PR Web reports that TSB Magazine, a website providing sex and dating advice for men, presented readers a list of traditionally confusing aspects of dating. Of all the most obvious potential pitfalls, when to SMS and what to write took top place as the most hazardous areas.

A poorly composed SMS or a misunderstood punctuation mark can sabotage even the most innocent affairs, and the decision of what to write when can be a confusing game.

Even too many messages can be a deal breaker when it comes to keeping a girl interested, according to TSB Magazine founder Bobbi Rio, who has made quite a business of positioning himself as an expert on the subject.

Of the candidates who took part in the survey, 32 percent voted SMSing as their number one issue, while 22 percent admitted that knowing how to rescue an awkward conversation with an attractive woman was a significant hurdle.

Following closely behind, 18 percent of men complained that is is often hard to know when and how to “lean in” for the uncomfortable first kiss and negotiate the cringe-inducing conversation that precedes and follows the moment.

Surprisingly, most men had no issue with the notion of sidling up to a woman and initiating conversation, and only 12 percent confessed that summoning up the courage to do so presented a challenge. – Daily Mail

Man found guilty of raping girl, 9

The evil smirk has been wiped off Stephen “Foxy” Isaacs’ face after he was found guilty of the brutal rape of a young girl.

Western Cape High Court Judge Lee Bozalek made it clear to Isaacs that he was convicted by the testimonies of two children – a teen witness and the victim.

Bozalek praised the testimony of a 17-year-old girl who told the court that Isaacs had played with her and some other children in the road outside her home hours before the vicious attack.

“What was particularly important was the evidence of (the 17-year-old) who innocently said that perhaps he couldn’t remember the events of the Friday because he was drunk,” said Bozalek.

“She gave evidence of his entirely inappropriate behaviour of engaging with children and she placed him in (the child’s) immediate vicinity.”

The judge said that he approached the child’s evidence with extreme caution but he found that there was absolutely no reason for her to lie.

“What is crucial is the evidence of the only witness and this was approached with extreme caution,” said Bozalek.

As for the young victim, he stated: “She was a nine-year-old girl who suffered trauma and was the victim of an assault that left her with brain injuries.

“She retained her memory and could distinguish between the truth and falsehood.

“It was a painful experience to hear and watch her give evidence.

But Bozalek added that the “ironic effect” of this was that the child convinced him that Isaacs was guilty of attacking him.

He said that Isaacs claimed the girl was mistaken when she identified him as her attacker but there was nothing to substantiate this claim.

“He said she may have been confused or even put up to it but there was no evidence that she was confused or manipulated,” Bozalek told the court.

“Her evidence was clear and tied in with (the testimony of) her mom, the 17-year-old girl and the two boys who found her.

“She knows the accused well and identified him as her attacker… the only question was if she falsely or mistakenly identified the accused.

“What is of significance is the way she identified the man accused of her attack… she said he was the same colour as she was and gave a description of what he was wearing.

“This information had to be coaxed out of her by her mom after clearly admitting she had lied [about being knocked over by a car].

“This strengthens her version, she said there were too many strangers around her and this is a completely natural reaction by a child.

“These telling moments powerfully underscored her evidence and she had no reason to falsely accuse him.

“I have no hesitation in accepting her evidence.”

Bozalek was brutal in his honesty when he described Isaacs as a cold-hearted liar.

Of Isaacs’ evidence, he said: “He chose his words with care.

“He was quick-witted and was seldom at a loss for an answer.

“It was clear that he had studied the docket.

“However, his evidence as a whole was filled with improbabilities.

“He admitted that he lied [to the family] when he said he would return to the house.

“He lied when he said that he was still in the Darling area.

“He lied to police when he promised to present himself to the Darling Police Station.

“He fled Darling and made his way to Strand where he worked for two weeks until his arrest.

“It is clear he decided to evade the authorities.

“In my view, [Isaacs’] evidence must be rejected as false.

“I find he did indeed kidnap, rape and attempt to murder [the child].

“He must’ve panicked when she emerged from the bush and identified him.”

Charges

Convicted child rapist Stephen “Foxy” Isaacs was yesterday found guilty of three of the four charges he faced in the Western Cape High Court.

*Count one: Kidnapping – Guilty.

The State said Isaacs unlawfully deprived the then nine-year-old girl of her freedom when he lied to her about going to the shop to buy sweets and instead dragged her into thick bushes.

On Tuesday trial Judge Lee Bozalek said: “She testified that she was dragged face down into an unknown place. I am satisfied that the State has proven he’s guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.”

* Count two: Rape – Guilty.

During the trial, the child told the court Isaacs had wanted her to perform oral sex on him and when she refused, he hit her and burnt her with cigarettes.

When she fought him off, he pushed her to the ground and proceeded to rape her. Medical evidence presented to the court backed up her claims and Isaacs was found guilty of rape.

* Count three: Assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm – Not guilty.

Isaacs was acquitted of this charge after Bozalek found that the assault was a continuation of the rape.

He said that when the child had refused to perform oral sex on Isaacs, he had tried to force her to do so by beating her and burning her.

* Count four: Attempted murder – Guilty.

The victim described to the court how Isaacs had choked her.

Using her left hand, she demonstrated how he had placed his hand around her throat and strangled her.

On Tuesday Bozalek said: “He intended to kill her and eliminate the only witness to his crime.”

POLICE CONSTABLE SHOT FIVE TIMES: NORTH WEST

BY Obakeng Maje

KHUMA(near Klerksdorp)- On Thursday, 2012-05-22, two constables were patrolling in Khuma at about 22:00 they saw a suspicious bakkie next to the road in Bergen street.

The registration number of the vehicle was scanned and it was evident that the registration number of the vehicle did not match the bakkie.

The members approached the suspicious vehicle and when they came close to it, the suspects opened fire with automatic rifles.

“The driver of the police vehicle, Constable Zolile Simon Jas (36-years-old) was hit five times in his hip, legs and ankle during the incident” Captain Adele Myburgh said.

His crew member, Cst Mokibelo Patric Lehong (30) was not injured. The injured police member was taken to hospital and is still admitted in a stable condition.

After the shooting incident, the four suspects jumped into their bakkie, drove about 100m and abandoned the vehicle and ran off. The suspects are still at large.

The Police are investigating an attempted murder case and the suspicious bakkie was confiscated. Forensic tests are being done to determine the ownership of the bakkie.

The Provincial Commissioner of the North West, Lt Gen Zukiswa Mbombo, warned that police attacks will not be tolerated. “The Police will work around the clock until the culprits are brought to book”, she said.

Moeneeb speaks out

Moeneeb Josephs has sent out a statement regarding his withdrawal from the current Bafana Bafana squad, and his retirement from international football.

His Orlando Priates teammate Benni McCarthy has offered The Star an explanation, saying he believes Josephs is not being given a fair opportunity to fight Itumeleng Khune for the Bafana number-one jersey.

“Moeneeb is a great professional and if I was in his situation I would have done the same thing,” McCarthy told the newspaper.

“You do everything possible to fight for the number one spot, but you know yourself you are never going to get the number one, because it’s fairly clear it’s Itumeleng Khune.

“He’s [Khune] a great goalkeeper who’s worked hard and put himself there … [but] in this country there are a lot of great goalkeepers and you have to make it open for everyone to fight for the number one.

“It’s clearly not like that, it’s plain to see that the manager has his ideas of who is the number one, irrespective of other great goalkeepers around,” he says.

McCarthy says Josephs was was reduced to tears by the difficulty of his decision: “I think it’s sad he has pulled out of the national team, he’s an absolute gem … I understand Moeneeb’s issues and hopefully it will work out for the best and people won’t hate him.”

HAVE YOUR SAY on Facebook: Do you agree with Slimkat’s decision?

Joseph’s statement, however, makes no mention of competition within Bafana. Josephs cites family commitments and past injuries, and says he wishes to “step aside” to make way for “the fantastic young goalkeepers in our country”.

Josephs’ statement in full:

I have been fortunate to be a part of the South African national football team for the past nine years. I have represented South Africa on 22 occasions. On each of these occasions I have been proud and honoured to represent our Rainbow Nation.

It is with a heavy heart, and after careful consideration and discussion with both my family and manager, that I have elected to retire from international football with immediate effect.

At the age of 32, keeping in mind the injuries that I have sustained, together with my desire to prolong my career, and considering the fantastic young goalkeepers in our country, I believe that it is the correct time to “step aside”.

In addition, I have spent very little time with my family in recent years, and I believe this decision will give me the opportunity to do so.

I would like to thank Safa and all the managerial coaching staff for the honour and privilege they have afforded me by representing our national soccer team.

I wish Pitso and the boys all the very best in their upcoming qualifiers!

Satanism suspected at school

abuse at school

Police have sent a specialised unit to a Cape Town high school after reports that pupils were practising satanic rituals, such as drinking their own blood and drawing upside-down crosses on school property.

Mitchells Plain police confirmed they had sent in their social crime prevention unit to run workshops with a group of children and their parents at Tafelsig High.

Community Police Forum spokesman Mogammet Fazloodien said he had found out about it when a parent had come to him for help.

Reports suggested that children at the school were drawing inverted crosses on their clothes, books and school benches.

Grade 8 pupil reportedly said they cut their arms to drink their own blood.

School principal Rushda O’Shea did not return phone calls on Tuesday.

Police spokesman Jerome Voegt said their social crime prevention unit had gone to the school to run workshops with the parents and children.

Fazloodien said the discovery had opened up a “can of worms” at the school. The police and a church have been called in to help.

Glendale High principal Achmat Chotia said he dealt with a similar incident two years ago and warned that children’s behaviour changed.

He was now educating parents on the tell-tale signs which could lead to satanism.

Chotia said schools often did not want to admit that their pupils were involved in satanic activity.

The smearing of the painting depicting President Jacob Zuma with his genitals exposed was a political statement, one of two men accused of defacing the work said at the Johannesburg Regional Court on Wednesday.

“It was my spoilt ballot paper,” the man, 58, said as he waited to appear in court on a charge of malicious damage to property.

He allegedly made two large red crosses on the painting, one over Zuma’s genitals, another over his head.

He said he did not know the other man accused of smearing black paint over the work, and that he only met him after they were both arrested.

The man said it was not about art, but rather a political issue which had become a race issue. He would only comment in detail later about his actions.

Zuma painting: Accused gets R1 000 bail

Johannesburg – The man who allegedly tried to spray paint the word “respect” on the wall of the Goodman Gallery was granted bail in Hillbrow Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

George Moyo was granted R1 000 bail and would return to court on June 14. He was charged with malicious damage to property.

When he was apprehended the letters “res” had been sprayed onto the white wall.

He was the third person to be arrested after Brett Murray‘s painting The Spear was defaced on Tuesday.

Two men painted over the canvas depicting President Jacob Zuma with his genitals hanging out.

A full bench of the South Gauteng High Court would hear an application by the ANC on Thursday to have the painting removed.

US pastor: Let gays die out

A Baptist pastor in North Carolina triggered internet outrage on Tuesday with his call from the pulpit for all gays and lesbians to be rounded up, fenced in like cattle, then left to die.

Reverend Charles Worley delivered his unabashedly homophobic homily on May 13 – Mother’s Day in the USs – at his independent Providence Road Baptist Church in the small town of Maiden, North Carolina.

“Build a great, big, large fence – 240 to 160 kilometres long – put all the lesbians in there, fly over and drop some food,” Worley told his congregation, as seen in a video that went viral on YouTube with more than 305 000 views.

“Do the same thing for the queers and the homosexuals and have that fence electrified so they can’t get out… and you know what, in a few years, they’ll die out… Do you know why? They can’t reproduce,” he said.

“If a man ever has a young’un, praise God, it’ll be the first one.”

With some of his parishioners in the background shouting “amen,” the barrel-chested Worley, 71, went on to say: “I ain’t going to vote for a baby killer or a homosexual lover.”

That was an apparent reference to President Barack Obama, who four days earlier came out in favour of same-sex marriage, and who is not opposed – as many Catholics and Evangelicals are – to abortion.

The local Catawba Valley Citizens Against Hate launched a social media campaign (www.facebook.com/CatawbaValleyAgainstHate) to condemn Worley’s sermon and organise a protest at his church on Sunday.

“We need to line the street in front of the church with people with some common sense to tell the world that hate is not welcome in our community. And, believe me, the world is watching!!” it said.

Same-sex marriage is a hot-button social issue looming over Obama’s bid for re-election in November, and it’s uncertain whether North Carolina, which voted for him in 2008, will do so again.

Obama’s apparent Republican adversary Mitt Romney opposes gay and lesbian marriage.

On May 8, North Carolina voters approved a state constitutional amendment explicitly forbidding gay marriages, civil unions and domestic partnerships. Similar bans exist in around 30 other US states.

Worley could not be immediately reached for comment, while the Providence Road Baptist Church website (www.prbcnc.com) was out of order. Telephone calls to the church were met with busy signals.

The furore spilled over into Google’s review pages, where a growing number of contributors gave the Providence Road Baptist Church one star out of a possible five and lashed out at Worley.

The only contributor to give the church five stars wrote: “Old Fashion Bible Believing Church. I feel so blessed to be a member. Brother Charles never pretends to be a saint. He preaches the true word of God.” – AFP

By Sandiso Phaliso

Western Cape Premier and DA leader Helen Zille has laughed off a photoshop picture depicting her posing naked with her private parts covered by what looks like a DA logo.

The image has sparked debate on Facebook, with some calling for its removal, while others say she deserves it.

A person by the facebook name of William ANCYL, who posted the picture early on Tuesday, refused demands from facebook friends to remove the picture.

He says the picture was in revenge for the painting The Spear that depicts President Jacob Zuma with his penis exposed.

Zille said: “Now you can see why I try to cycle vigorously for an hour every day. I obviously need more than Botox.

“Maybe one of those makeover shows can help: Style by Jury here I come!”

Doctor fined for charging twice

NM Doctors hearing 1

Durban gynaecologist Muhindo Gabriel Matebhere has been fined R20 000 after being found guilty of “split-billing”.

Matebhere appeared before of the Health Professions Council of South Africa’s professional conduct committee in Durban on Tuesday.

One of his patients, Tessa Ntshingila, 35, had filed a complaint against the doctor in February 2010, after he made her pay a cash amount of R1 500 for a surgical procedure and then charged her a further R900 on her medical aid.

Matebhere pleaded guilty to charges of unprofessional conduct, but argued that his only wrongdoing was failing to disclose that he had charged Ntshingila twice.

His lawyers said that both doctor and patient were in agreement over everything that Ntshingila was charged for and the doctor had made a “technical error”.

“I don’t know why he charged me an extra R900. We never agreed upon that,” Ntshingila said.

“He told me that this procedure was not covered by medical aid.”

According to Matebhere’s lawyers, Ntshingila was supposed to be charged R3 000, but he “felt sorry for her” and charged her a lower fee.

He asked her to pay R1 500 upfront and recouped his losses from the medical aid.

Ntshingila was charged a further R6 000 by the hospital after her surgery was completed.

Matebhere was ordered to pay a fine of R20 000 and was given an opportunity to appeal within 21 days.
