Sandilands: I’m not to blame!!!

Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands says they let themselves down badly in the 2-0 defeat to Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium last night.

Sundowns went into the match needing a win to draw level with Orlando Pirates at the top of the League standings, but delivered a below-par performance as goals from Sthembiso Ngcobo and Siphiwe Tshabalala ruined the party.

Sandilands himself was seemingly directly at fault for the first goal – running past Shabba’s long ball to gift Ngcobo the opener – though he insists the blame can’t lay with him.

“We definitely let ourselves down because if it wasn’t for that first goal we would have at least got a point,” Sandilands tells KickOff.com

“I’m not to blame for that first goal because I made a correct decision by coming out. Perhaps I took my eyes of the ball, but even then the ball was not far from Siyanda [Xulu].

“But overall I think we didn’t create enough scoring opportunities because I don’t remember [Itumeleng] Khune diving for a shot at goal.”

Sundowns are nowthree points behind Pirates with two tough matches remaining against SuperSport United and Free State Stars.

“We can still win the League because if we don’t believe then why are still playing?”
