The Naledi Local Municipality mayor Cliffton Groep said he is happy with the progress made at the Mompati Mall construction project. Groep said, along with the municipal manager, Modisaotsile Segapo, they embarked on an oversight visit at the project on Tuesday to do an assessment.

“We visited the project to check the progress of the project. The progress on the building site has been brisk as contractors work with a massive speed to make sure that they reach the targeted completion time. The total work done could be at 65% currently.

“As the municipality, we are committed to providing reliable bulk electricity and water as well as rendering the refuse removal services if required. Importantly, the anti-crime patrolling program will be extended to the surroundings, en route to the mall. This will assist us to prevent and combat any criminal activities and ensure a pleasant, safe, and conducive shopping experience,” he said.

According to www.propertywheel.co.za website, the 22 000m2 centre will be the first safe, family-friendly one-stop shopping environment in the area. The website says, the mall is named after ANC struggle icon, Dr Ruth Segompotsi Mompati, and as part of the development, The Twin City Foundation, which focuses on Early Childhood Development (ECD), has partnered with The Mompati Foundation to identify high-impact community projects.

“The mall’s mix of 60 stores will cater to a wide range of consumers in the region with grocery anchors, Shoprite and SuperSpar. Confirmed tenants include Spar, Shoprite, Clicks, West Pack Lifestyle, Ackermans, Capitec, Nedbank, FNB, Specsavers, Torga Optical, Exact, Foschini, Identity, Jet, Jet Home, Pep, Pep Cell, Pep Home, Sneaker Factory, Totalsports, The Fix, Tekkie Town, Sportscene, Studio 88, Power Fashion, Truworths, KFC, Hungry Lion and McDonald’s.

“Vryburg is an agricultural and industrial hub in the west of the North West province. It is the seat of the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District Municipality of the Naledi Local Municipality. The development is located on a prime site on the N18 adjacent to the CBD, opposite the Vryburg sports grounds with access at the major intersection of the N14 and N18.”

It says the single-level mall is designed by Leon Jacobs Architects and its construction is being led by the main contractor NJW. The website says the centre’s development will result in improvements to the surrounding roads as well as all bulk services.

“It will have a solar photovoltaic (PV) plant that produces clean, green energy and help ensure that it can continue trading during load shedding. Mompati Mall will also offer free Wi-Fi for shoppers. Mompati Mall is scheduled to open in October 2023.”
